  3. Hi everyone ,I have a 1981 Yamaha DT 175 H runs great ,start good no problems with that and idles great, but gets bad gas mileage ,my son in law has the same bike only older a 1978 and gets way better gas mileage , when we go riding i run out of gas at about 51 miles and he gets about 78 miles wih his dt 175 ,i don't leak any gas and the bike revs good all through all 6 gears and tops out at 61 miles an hour ,any clues to my gas mileage problems thanks
  4. Hi everyone, i baught a 1981 DT 175 Yamaha that was stripped down of all it's lighting it was used for just dirt racing. My problem is i want to get a headlight working on it so i can see at night if i have to. I tried an after market headlight it was more or less an offroad light for a truck, but it was for a 12 volt system, the bulb in it is a H3 55 watt 12.8 volt light, and they burn out within a minute of me turning on the light. Is there any way that i can reduce the voltage so that it doesn't burn out my bulbs? I'm running off of the yellow wire which i think is my magneto wire but i could be wrong, but i do know that the voltage rises as my RPM increases and i have no battery on this bike, so if anybody has any ideas how to rig up something that would work on the cheap end i would very much appreciate it.
  5. yea i checked and the oil injector was not closing all the way so i put some oil to the cables and it work fine for a little while but went back to sticking ,i was wondering if i byepass the oil injector and just added oil to my gas what is the proper oil to gas ratio?
  6. yea it has a oil injector ,i'll take a look and see if the oil injector is hung up thanks,is there any thing else though just in case that could also cause the problem
  7. Hi everyone,I was out riding my yamaha DT 175 today and every thing was fine until the ride back when i had to stop at a intersection when i went to take off again my bike started runing real rough like it didn't want to tack out and it was smoking real bad in first gear and part of second gear then it would go back to runing smooth again and not smoking anymore. and ran fine until i would stop and it would do the rough running and smoking again until i got past second gear then it would be fine again. any ideas what might be going on thanks.

  10. Hi my name is mike iv'e been riding motorcycles since i was fourteen i'm 53 now i took a litle break from riding for about fifteen years but my new son inlaw got me back into riding again i picked up a 1981 yamaha Dt-175-h and started riding with my son inlaw every chance i get ,reminded me what iv'e been missing out on all these years, there's nothing like going for a ride its a great stress relever especialy after a hard day at work ,i like street riding but my first love has always been riding down a dirt trail or through a forest trail nothing like it anywhere
  11. My bike is a 1981 yamaha DT175H ,the problem i have is i need to pull the magneto or flywheel off to change a oil seal and time the bike the manual calls for a yamaha flywheel puller part number 90890-01189 which online the cheapest was $56. bucks which is more than i want to pay for a external threaded nut with a bolt running through it, does anyone know if it is left or right hand threaded and what size the the hole the nut fits into might be,i'm thinking of just making the tool to do the job , a conventional automotive flywheel puller won't work in that tight compartment
