  1. Hello everyone, I'm not getting a spark on my sr250 with a new coil, spark plug, and wire harness, I have been told that it is probably due to either a faulty CDI/TCI unit or pick-up coil. I was wondering if anyone could guide me through checking which it is, I know you can't really test the CDI unit so it would be checking to make sure the pick-up coil is fine before I purchase a new (and expensive) CDI unit. I'm not exactly sure how I go about checking the pick-up coil properly so if anyone could help me figure out how to do so that'd be great... so far this bike has been nothing but problems for me and I'd love to get it finally up and reliably running
  2. Hello all, I have an 81 sr250 that I've run into some problems with, I recently replaced all the gaskets and o-rings in the engine to stop an oil leak which was successful and after doing all of that I rode it around town problem free for a couple hours and later on in the day the throttle would stop having any effect and the engine would cut out. After going through this a few times finally getting it back home I took the spark plug out to find out it wasn't getting any spark, I got a new flasher relay which didn't seem to solve the problem and now am waiting to recieve a new ignition coil, my question is if anyone knows what the problem could be if not the ignition coil and if anyone could help. Thanks!
  3. I set the cam chain and the pistons to the right gaps and also checked the timing and it is right where it needs to be I have had the baterry on the carger and it is pretty new and I have cleaned the carbs, so its been pretty tuned up new spark plug correctly gapped and its getting a good spark and I have had it running it just wont fire, I've heard the wrong air mixture to cause this, but I wanted to get any feedback possible
  4. I'm having problems with my '81 sr250, I had had it running great and then I had problems with it starting, I can push start it OK after a few tries, and I do not have a kickstarter installed, the last time I had it running from a kick start it was running lean, and I figure this would be due to a problem with the mixture screw which I have yet to mess with. When I try to start the bik it wil turn over but will not fire, I was wondering if this would all be due to a problem with the mixture screw or wat else it could be any help would be great!!!
  5. The jets were cleaned a month ago and it had been running great then I was having and still having problems with it starting itll do the chug chug chug but not turn over and when I did get it back runing I ran into the problem of it coming back to idle very slowly.... so I guess I will continue to search for the mixture screw, the yamaha manual for the sr250 that I have doesn't even mention it and I haven't been able to find it, and do what you mentioned when I do, im still not sure on my im having these problems w it starting either
  6. Hey everyone, I've been doing some tune up to my SR250 and its been acting kind of funny, the bikes coming back down to idle very slowly and to my knowledge this would be a lean mixture? I cannot find any kind of air flow screw on the carb to try and fix this but I haven't found one/there isn't one and I honestly have no ideaz what the problem could be the carb is in good shape and has recently been cleaned as well as the jets, and direction on what to do would be awesome thanks!
  7. Hey all I'm trying to put pod filters on my 81' sr250 so I'm trying to find a website where I can find cheap main jets to get a few different sizes as well as maybe one with cheap spark plugs for it, any help would be awesome esp. with the jets thanks!!!!
  8. Hey all, I was wondering if anyone had an idea how small of a battery would work for an '81 sr250, i'm trying to eliminate space and weight and fabricate a seat around the battery, but I wasn't sure how small a battery I could go; any help would be appreciated

    '81 SR250

Hello all, I just recently recieved an '81 SR250 in pretty good condition, and have been riding it around and it feels/runs fantastic. In the next few months I would like to do a few things to tweak the look and performance of the bike as well as get rid of any unneeded weight. One such thing I have been looking into are replacing the stock airbox with a breathe and pod filter as illustrated here ; http://www.yurisite.com/photos/motik/project/sr250air.html .... my question though is if anyone has done this for this particular bike and could help me figure out what else I need to do other than "plugging" the filters on; any carb adjustment etc... I'm pretty new to working on bikes so any help would be great Thanks!
