  1. Thanks OG, Merry Christmas to you all.
  2. Hi Seana, Just thinking if it's poping and farting when you decelerate then it actually might be to rich a mixture ie fuel in exhast and then it burns off as you shut down, this happens with wasted spark systems and so it might be an idea to actually change back to your old jets and see if that cures the problem, bluing to the pipes is fairly usual anyway but fuel burning in the exhaust will speed it up plus it will over heat the cylinders as the exhaust cannot get rid of the waste heat due to them being hotter than the engine, otherwise just increase the air jet size to lean the mixture out that way. of course this might all be complete rubbish and some one else may have a better idea of what's going on.
  3. Hi Nick and welcome to the YOC, I'm sure some one on here will help out, post your problem on the "WORKSHOP" section and add photos if you have them and wait for a reply. Nice intro.
  4. Hi Nick, It might be best if you were to use the "new members" section to tell everyone who you are first BFORE rolling up and asking for help, most people don't mind helping out with a problem BUT they do like to know who they are talking to. It's the same as if your down the pub and some bloke you don't know starts asking you to help him out with his problem, WHY SHOULD YOU! So play nice and say Hi and the guys on here will be more than happy to offer advice and tips. Or not, your choice.
  5. An engineers engineer. STUNNING.
  6. Hi Trigger and welcome to the YOC, It might be best if you keep you comments on this part of the site to who you are and what you ride THEN got to "workshop section" and post your query there, some peps get annoyed if you roll up and start asking questions when you have only just arrived, next take photos of the offending bit and post it to the site and THEN ask what it is and how do I stop it leaking, better yet put ALL your info on the bike into a question, year-type-problem and wait for someone to get back to you, they are nice guys on here but will eat you alive if you get it wrong.
  7. Thanks all, I will give these guys a go and see what happens, I will get back to you DT and let you know what they are like.
  8. Hi All, Just going to ask if anyone has used Philpots at PITTED FORKS in Luton to have any of their rechroming done, just bought a spare set of forks off of ebay to replace my old knackered set and Philpots want £156 all in inc P+P for a full hard rechrome of the stancions fully guaranteed for 12 months, sounds like a good deal to me but do you know better? If you happen to know of a better deal please give me a call or PM me if you want to check them out for yourself then they are at www.pittedforks.co.uk. Martin. P.S It seems that due to demand there is a 4 week turn round on their jobs but as the bike is laid up for the winter not a problem for me but might be for some others.
  9. Hi All, Just a quick question, I need a YICS tool for the XJ and havng seen the price for a proper one on fleabay (F*****G HELL) and such I have decided to make my own but was wondering if anyone had made one or had one spare that I could borrow for a short time, if not then I have downloaded the drawings from the net and was just going to ask if I made 1 would anyone else like one as well at cost price, it's only a few bits of copper pipe some nuts washers and rubber pipe after all and provided the dimensions are correct I can see no reason why it can't be made. If you have any comments or suggestions (this is where you put your rude comments and totally irrelavent suggestions in) then please feel free to bung them in, if your interested in one of these then please PM me and I will get back to you with some sort of time frame and a rough price (shouldn't be much after all) I'm in the UK but have no problem if your not ( US- AUS etc) just get back to me and we can sort something out. I have 2 drawings that I downloaded that seem pretty comprehensive but if you have a better picture / description then send it along, Thanks all. Martin.
  10. If you tell me where you last saw it I will try to catch it for you MIKE, you sense of humour that is?
  11. Hi Rob and welcome to the YOC, post a photo and you might get some ideas back, usually totally impractical or f*****g rude but this is after all a site for bikers.
  12. Hi CB, Might be nice if you did and INTRO BEFORE asking questions, most will help but not if you just rock up and bluntly ask, just ask yourself how you would feel if some stranger asked for help out of the blue and you had no idea who they were or even if they were honest, not suggesting your not but some want answers and then never come back, this is NOT some place you come to just to ask questions it's about people who love to ride and love their Yam and are interested in what others do to their bikes and how to get the most fun out of doing what they love. nuff said. PS go to "new member" section and tell all. but DON'T ask questions there.
  13. Hi Si and welcome to the YOC, now that's what I call a proper intro, as your new to biking I should just stick to what you know and if your happy riding nearer the kerb then do that and take your mates advice with a pinch of salt, it's fine when your more proficient but for now make your self as small a target as you can, ok wet visor (I asume you mean foggy from breathing?) well you have to breath but try a cheap method of a potato cut in half and rubbed on the inside of the visor or there are some sprays you can buy that do a similar job others on here will know the best ones, hill starts are at best only advised on when your there to see the problem but find a nice quiet road (that has a hill!) and just practice same as a car but you just need to find the bite point of the clutch and open the throttle SLOWLY until your off and running, cornering in the wet is another of those really difficult things to advise on, how wet is to wet? if you mean puddles then go round them and NOT through them if you mean damp then it's easy the first time it slides out from under you then your going to fast, not really helpful but it's difficult to be precise when your not there and don't know how you drive. I would suggest that if your really worried then get on a traning course run by bikers they will help you gain confidence and make sure you ride within your skill. Other than that have fun it's a thrill every time you ride your bike and not something you should fear. Martin
  14. Hi Ian, Far as I know the 600 and 900 are similar but NOT the same some mods to the 900 but essentially there should be no difference between the 2 in the ignition circuit,I would suggest that you concentrate only on the starter and ign wiring as anything else would be pointless if you just want to test it, you will need to earth it and have a battery but otherwise that's about it, you can do with out the starter button if you want and just short over the starter relay should do no harm if the bike is easy to start but if not use the starter button as damage to the starter relay will happen if you keep it shorted for prolonged periods. So you will need the starter wiring, the ignition circuit wiring and the battery curcuit wiring as a minimum I would think. Hope that helps and I have not forgotten some thing obvious.

    XJ900F problem

Might be an earth not connected properly or your starter motor brushes might be worn, plus of course the dreaded dud battery, if you leave your bike outside the battery can fail in the cold weather, or maybe the connections on your starter button, any of these or a combination of them all.
  16. We are talking girls here you know, their great when all the bits work but it's a bugger when things stop working to find out what has stopped or has just frozen from lack of use
  17. Don't think about it otherwise you will find all sorts of reasons not to do it like who's going to cook my tea and stuff, just go for it you might even get a really good bike instead of just a runner.
  18. Hi Steve, just a GENTLE reminder to say Hi in the noob section before asking questions, otherwise it might get bloody, plus people like to know who they are talking to.

    women

Nothing wrong with them as such just different planets of origin, like a mate told me once just before I got married, what do lobster thermadore and oral sex have in common? answer you don't get either when your married. OH FUCK I really should have listened " I like lobster".
  20. Could you in fact SELL the wife or even trade her for a new bike? Just think of making a saving in these tight times.
  21. Have you checked the relay that sits behind the front panel, the one that monitors the output to the plug I believe that it is an overload relay but if it is blown the generator can;t supply power to the ignition. I bought a load of them from Argos Returns some years ago and had the same/similar problems.
  22. Thanks for that DT, signed it and hope it works out, as my XJ is 30 this year I might even save a few quid.
