  1. I had a yz490 and it was wicked, crack the throttle in 3rd and the front wheel if it could get grip would reach for the skies. Love it but i wouldnt want one for the road. TTB
  2. At 4000 rpm thats when the other carb kicks in so it maybe worth adjusting the throttle linkage. TTB
  3. Good to hear the road test went well, if theres no baffles installed then theres a chance that it will want jetting. Other option would be to just make some and install on an end cap. TTB
  4. Nice find and a great pressy, it looks well looked after and well worth taking care off. TTB
  5. Bad luck and glad you came out OK, worst thing is the driver sped off and didnt stop which is illegal. I would report it to the police but chances are if there local they maybe on the same route to work so you may come across him again at the same time. Glad your OK and the bike can be fixed. TTB
  6. I thought maybe one or two guys maybe interested in this im building, well rather than building a SR500 based cafe racer it felt right to build something trail bike orientated, but what. HL500 or Baja racer then this came to mind, the 1979 / 1980 Sonauto Paris Dakar bike. So this is how far i have got up to now, i have fitted YZ forks, Bilstein shocks made bar risers and had a tank made, i have tried to get it right as possible even down to the decals and the rear Preston Petty rear mudguard, im loving the making of brackets and fabricating plates. I keep coming up with problems of (How did they do that ) but so far nothings stumped me, i have to make the rear rack next which will be harder than i predict. The plan is to get this one dont biuld another from a different year, well its easy to build a cafe racer. One thing i do need is a set of 1979 YZ400 spokes or rear wheel if anyone has a set. TTB
  7. I use 3 sets of gloves , light motox with knuckle protectors for summer, Triumph lether gloves for most other times and they are goo even from brand new, the term fits like a glove comes to mind. and winter gloves made by Klim. TTB
  8. Oh yes i will take plenty of picies, i also have a free ticket coming as my TT500 will be on a classic bike of the year stand.
  9. Bloody hell , my £23.00 one was cheap, must be as rare as fender extenders. TTB
  10. Ha , did the same with a xt steering lock which was out in less than a minute. TTB
  11. I want to know what make of batteries they use. TTB
  12. There,s a ton of differences, main parts that are shared are motor, forks, bottom yolk, rear suspension, air box, coil, clutch and brake perch, right hand front wheel spokes, inner mudguard, front mudguard dependent on colour. Everything else differs , even the main frame if you count the mudguard lugs are in a different place and theres no steering lock. TTB
  13. For the extra fun and bottom end grunt of the 500 i would go for a 500 any day of the week. 500 are easy to start really all you need is the knack and make sure you follow through on the kick start and make sure theres no throttle. TTB.
  14. Been busy for the last 12 months sorting out a few bikes including another TT500, its taken some time and effort and apart from one or two very minor bits to do its neally ready for registering, i started of with a rolling chassis but had accumilated parts over a year or so.Home made wiring harness with full working lights and horn, home made speedo bracket and cable guides made from stainless welding wire. Oh and this is how i bought it. On another point my lad bought this a few weeks ago, put some time and effort into it as well as £400 and now its ready for mot, engine sound great which is a good thing. Other thing i did restore as it was on my wish list was this , a rare Triumph TR5T. Enjoyed it but i wouldnt want to do it again due to the parts being super rare. I also managed to get another TT500 which is great fun on the lane. Someone will ask whats next , well after 2 years waiting i have got my hands on the Paris Dakar replica tank i had made. This will be next on the list, well thats unless something else pops up Hope you enjoy the photos chaps. TTB
  15. Dont drag me into it , im a virgin when it comes to 350 as its one of the XT's i havent had, if its the same design as the 600 then yes the rod has worn and will need a full rebuild. XT motor is simple to work on as long as you have the tools and its best to do what your doing in buying bits as you go on, clutch plates, cam chain, internal bearings if the moror has a full strip as well as oil pump parts, there will be a long list but you wont know exactly what you need until its in bits. TTB
  16. Borrowed this off the RD site but easy to follow, you dont need a COC due to the age of the MX. http://www.aircooledrdclub.com/smf/index.php?topic=31011.0 TTB
  17. Well if your sure then that was the cheapest option , next could be pick up , coil or cdi unit. All a guess if you dont have the correct testing equipment. TTB
  18. Hi and welcome, had the same problem on a 2KF i sorted out for my mate, to prove a point is to get it running and go for a short run at low speed , once warm crack the throttle to run at higher RPM until it starts to miss , then shut off the throttle lowering the speed until the bike runs clear again. If it picks up and runs smooth again at lower revs then its fuel starvation at higher RPM. On the 2 kf we found a gauze inside the fuel entry elbow point on the carb , once removed it ran a dream, there may not be any gauge on yours but there could be a fuel blockage in the carb leading to the other vacuum carb, this opens and delivered fuel on the higher RPM band so maybe hence the reason the bike misses at higher RPM. Hope it helps TTB
  19. Sounds like a bad earth or a faulty switchgear. TTB
  20. Sounds like a bad earth or contacter, could be the solenoid or just a knackered starter motor. TTB
  21. Now i have a TT600R and a load of gear levers but im not sure if i have one spare, the early TT600 59x model lever will fit but i will have a look for you, sold some bike but gained a few extra , still in the 20 i think but getting them restored as i go on. TTB
  22. Yes xt600 lever should fit OK. TTB
