  1. I love loud pipes on a VTwin it seems almost a crime not to fit them. I have Vance and Hines big shots with quiet baffles on my Warrior (quiet baffles are only very slightly quieter but the sound is nicer). Power commander is regarded by almost everyone as the best fuel controller, I bought the new version and it was faulty, sent it back for a refund. It may take a long time to get hold of one for a brand new model of bike, it was around 2 months before I got mine. I ended up taking it off and just running my bike without it, mines done 15,000 fault free miles and runs fine. A friend of mine has another yam warrior with ridiculous home made exhausts fitted from day he bought it. 30,000 miles later its still using the original spark plugs and running perfect. www.dynojet.co.uk [email protected]
  2. A few bike have different brake pads fitted to the abs version, sometimes cost a lot more. Minor detail but might be worth checking... so yeh its just down to how much you want those wheels? I wouldn't want to mess around too much with trying to disable the abs and all that, I can just imagine it messing up something expensive. Im guessing the wheels just have nowhere to mount the abs rings yeh?
  3. Heya, Id double check the sidestand switch before totally ruling it out. Replaced it with a brand new one? Its nearly always the sidestand switch! If its not that then yeh check if its the clutch switch. Edited by DDT.
  4. I ordered a gel seat pad from the states about 4 years ago and it was something like £60 for the item, postage got added on then the full invoiced value brought it over the threshold to pay import duty + a parcel force fee and it ended up being something stupid like £120. I was reading on another bike forum and lots of guys are saying amount has now been significantly lowered on which they can charge you import tax on, meaning if you buy something for £20 they might be able to get you for it... You need to do some proper research before ordering or you could really get stung
  5. Like others have mentioned here, I spray wd40 or GT85 over vulnerable parts of the bike. I think GT85 is better than wd40 but most of the time its a bit more expensive to buy. If you HAVE to ride through winter then its your best bet. I got myself a winter bike because you can literally knock hundreds and hundreds of pounds of value off a bike riding all year round, plus chains, break callipers etc just end up knackered. GPZ500 can be bought for £500 and they're really tough and economical, worth thinking about.
  6. Fair play mate! Cant offer any helpful advice. All I can say is I work in a massive motorbike repair centre which has over 500 bikes in here at any one time. We have master qualified technicians and they send the wheels of to be built by the guy down the road! Think they decided its best left to the specialist, like an art form a bit like tuning a piano or something haha. Fair play doing it yourself!
  7. Don't know if someone may have mentioned this before but has anyone whos had this problem tried fitting a shock from a dragstar 650 classic? Might be more of those around so would be great if they fit? 200-300 quid for an aftermarket seems a bit steep

  9. my vfr400 had a cable operated flip plate, kind of cool but def not worth the risk of getting pulled over and someone noticing it, small risk but could end up in big trouble
  10. think it all comes down to the discretion off the officer and how much he feels youre taking the piss with your plate. Put it this way, if youre plate is totaly 100 legal size/font etc but with a tiny logo at the bottom saying "i hate pigs" youd be getting a fine for your number plate! Then youd prob have to go to court to prove/argue it was to legal standards or just pay the fine. Theyll get you one way or another! I had a copper pull me over for "having my pillion pegs in down position!" seriously! He said they were dangerous and should always be up when you havent got a passenger! these were standard oem pegs by the way not custom spikes!
  11. yeh they should all manage your bike, they tend to air on the side of caution with max weight. Most stands would prob lift much higher than stated but yeh try and get one thats rated for weight of your bike obviously. The lil red jack I got does the job on all my bikes and postage is usually much cheaper than the bigger ones jacks. Its tiny when stored up on its end in a corner so its perfect if space is a problem. All of these lifters will do the job and have their own pros and cons.
  12. http://www.mandp.co.uk/p/536977/tre4101-mechanical-motorcycle-liftyeh the bigger flatbed style ones do but if you get one of these smaller ones be careful to do as I suggested. On the one that Ttaskmaster posted a link to make sure you strap the bike for extra stability
  13. Same here, the padock stands we have for the sports bike never seem to fit properly and if you have a bike jack you can lift the front or the back. Careful where you lift the bike, a peice of wood across can sometimes be handy. Dont try to lift the bike off the floor without having either the front or rear wheel still touching the floor as it gets very unstable and may tip over unless its strapped to something
  14. They cant give you points for small number plate mate, just a fine
  15. before this came into force i was under the impression it would only actually fail if the number plate was a single line format. As long as the numberplate was in the correct double line format it wasnt supposed to be an mot fail. Most garages know its a real grey area so just automatically say its a fail unless its totaly standard fullstop, cuz they cant go wrong then. I used to have small sigle line number plates with unusual fonts + logos on my sports bikes and I got stopped and fined a couple of times in the same month. Even had a copper come into my work and try and do me because he had noticed my number plate on the car park! Threatening to wait for me when it was time to go home! They will really use it to stick the law to you if they dont like you for whatever reason or theyre in a bad mood! Ive heard a lot of people say either have a legal size plate or just have no plate! I myself now have a legal size one on my dragstar and a "one size smaller" on my warrior. Ive never been stopped once in about 4 years with a "one size smaller" plate. One other thing to take note, tiny plates often lead to less protection on back end/tail lights etc. Some sports bikes look theyve been battered from stones etc after theyve fitted tail tidy and small plates. Anyone who is following you in a rideout will also hate you if youre bike is constantly chucking loads of stones up at them
