    Winter hack

Well done mate, onto Mod 1 now - word of advice, have a look at the different test centres in your area or speak to people about them if you can, as I have discovered that some are a lot bigger than others, and therefore the high-speed manoeuvres are a lot easier to handle. Best of luck!

    Winter hack

P.S I know you said 125 or less, but the ER-5 is a docile enough creature, and I really do think it would be a superb choice

    Winter hack

On a serious note, I would highly recommend taking a look at a Kawasaki ER-5... completely bulletproof, great winter hack imo and you can pick up a goodish one on eBay for around £700 if you catch them right. I did my training on one and thought it would be fantastic for the winter, this one had been dropped more times than Ann Widdecombe in Strictly rehearsals and it still soldiers on.
  4. Passed, am selling up the baby drag and getting something bigger! EDIT : Didn't realise I couldn't say I was selling something without being a paid member... link removed
  5. yeah and be sure to include the damage from the last crash as well
  6. Chaps, The company I had in mind to do my DAS with early next year phoned me yesterday with a cancellation for next week... in a fit of madness, I booked it! This time next week I might have my full licence... wish me luck....
  7. Chin up mate. Did the guy use his indicators at all? If he wasn't, he should have been. This sounds like one of those where you weren't really in the wrong but you probably don't have a claim if you ask me, but it's really all down to the exact circumstances. How bad is the bike dinged up?
  8. I am having these mods done tomorrow as well. I'm also fitting a HiFlo oil filter, new plugs, a new stock air filter and a new chain w/ rear sprocket. I'm hoping it will feel like a brand new bike will let you know how I get on. At the moment I do around 30 miles a day on the A3, and at 50mph I either have to be at extremely high revs in 4th, or I change up into 5th only to suffer a loss of power/speed, meaning I'm constantly shifting to maintain speed. Anyway, will let you know how I get on.
  9. Cheers Gas I will ask my man to give them a once over on Friday.
  10. Hi guys, I've got the bike going into the shop on Friday for a good overhaul; getting some engine bars fitted, new chain/sprockets (front sprocket +2 teeth, as per MarkyBoy's experiment), got a new 100 jet, new brake lever, indicator stalk, oil filter, air filter, and a partridge in a pear tree... Anyhoo, today driving into work I noticed the rear brake squeaking at low speeds when light pressure was applied... is this something sinister? Cheers all John
  11. cool mate, I'll defo buy that sissy bar off you. I'm going to treat the rust this weekend as well if I can... Sunday morning sound good? Oh I lost my phone by the way so we're going to have to keep in contact on here...
  12. you tit. Are we still on for this weekend? I'll be buying parts off what's left of your bike soon if you're not careful! Are you still planning on chopping it?
  13. I'd love to see you try and reach up to wipe your visor whilst doing 50 with that thing on! Moral of the story is don't buy clothing online, unless they give size charts (measure yourself) or you've tried it on in the store first!
  14. I am going to attempt Markyboy's sprocket/filter/jet tweaks at some point in the near future. Will let you know how it goes...

    Rust on frame

Hi guys, I've got a few spots of rust on the frame of my lovely Drag.. they were there when bought. Can anyone recommend some paint I can get (preferably in a store rather than online), and a method for application? I'm guessing it's a case of sanding the rust down and then applying, but I'm not very good with this sort of thing so any advice would be appreciated. If it isn't raining on Sunday I'd like to give the bike some TLC. Cheers, John
  16. Cheers, that's very helpful. I will try to be a bit kinder on the old girl

    Cigars

I'm game, why not. Not while the weather is nasty though.
  18. Hi guys, When commuting in London I am constantly changing up/down gears, but I have noticed that when I am in the lower gears if I release the throttle but do not brake (engine is providing braking obv), when I re-apply the throttle there is a thud as the chain is grabbed. Is this poor throttle/clutch management on my part, or something to be expected? Also, my throttle has a lot of play in it (christofeser is kindly helping me out with this at a later date), to the point where if I want to pin it I have to adjust my grip forward to then pull down further; this means however that when I go to change gear, I go to close the throttle but because I have had to twist it round so far it is still slightly open when I turn my wrist back as far as it will go, meaning I get some revving while shifting - is this normal, will it damage my engine and should the problem be resolved by tightening the cables? Cheers guys Johnny P.S nearly lost it today on the A4 when a white van man decided to change lanes in front of me without warning at 40mph, causing me to attempt an emergency stop on a metal grate and powersliding across the adjacent lane... had to pull over for a couple of minutes after that one!
  19. I saw one of those Suzuki Intruder 1800 jobbies the other day at Box Hill, that definitely did it for me.

    Cigars

I'm partial to a Romeo No. 2 myself, bought a humidor many years ago in Dubai. If I see any of you dipping one in brandy I will tear your arms off
  21. Oh yeah, just got it! Still getting the hang of the thing, I had two at once and I missed the first one Reply on the way...
  22. Thanks guys for all your kind remarks and Paul/Chris/foamy cheers for the helpful comments. Chris I got your PM, I will definitely be keen to go for a ride down your way sometime soon, maybe this Sunday? Paul, thanks for that post, I read your stuff about the 125 'drag before I bought one and thought that I might end up looking at doing the things you mentioned; it's a really great bike to learn on I think because I really have to work the gears, especially on roads like the A4, I can't be lazy and slow down to 20 in 4th gear then expect to be able to power back up to 40 unless I'm prepared to wait for 10 minutes while people beep furiously behind me... ! I'm hoping in 6 months or so I will have enough experience to take my test and upgrade to something like a 650. I have noticed though that commuting in London on a cruiser is not nearly as easy as it would be on a sports bike! The bars are at just the right height to take off a strip of car wing mirrors on either side... On an unrelated note, a weird thing happened to me yesterday on my first day of commuting... a guy stepped out into the road in front of me while I was doing about 40, I pull up to a halt and beep at him, and he comes at me and tries to steal my backpack! Fortunately I was much stronger than he was, and if it had gotten any worse I do have kevlar knuckles on my gloves, they would do the job! Happy riding all, speak soon. Johnny
  23. Hi guys and girls, After 6 weeks of waiting for the cogs to turn far enough for the DVLA to spit out a new provisional licence and send it via second-class post to me, I was finally able to take my CBT, insure and tax my bike and get it on the road yesterday! I've done close to 100 miles on it today, drove into London went for a little toot around and then blatted back down the A316 to Weybridge... found out that my beast of a 125 Drag refuses to go faster than 55mph, but then at 6'3 and 17st I'm not the lightest or most aerodynamic of lumps for it to shift. Been great so far, just wanted to let everyone know that I'm very happy I chose to free myself from public transport, riding a bike is brilliant. Oh and the question; if anyone knows somewhere where I can get some decentish weatherproof panniers for a 125 'drag for around the £100 mark (preferably less ) I would very much appreciate it. Cheers all happy riding Johnny
  24. 10, I got noah and moses confused. Gay.
