  1. Just checked the earlier DT's had a shorter stroke up until the 3rn1 models.so crank would more than likely be the same but with a shorter con rod, by 0.7mm
  2. The 34X crankshafts were put in the earlier late 80's DTR's, probably worth checking on AJ Sutton site, see if theres a compatability list on the right hand side of the page, to see if it will go in your bike,I can't see it being different but still worth checking, as I've just noticed it is a brand new crank, and not second hand, the main problem may be the con rod length I think.
  3. That last one, plus its only £75
  4. Personally I'd look for a decent second hand crank, a newish model one with low mileage on it, then buy a con rod kit, big bearing and have it all built up professionally.
  5. Ah right fair enough I'll cut n paste the post Finally decided to put DT back together as summers almost here. Open up the engine today and find this lol. Top Racing crank around 3 months old. Avoid. Farnham has my OEM one rebuilding it and I wont be touching Top Racing again It was still being run in tbh, didn't really push it. It always felt a bit dodgy though so i'm glad it's a cut and dry case. Thought oil pump wasn't working but theres oil everywhere so it's just a crap crank. Apparently the pin was too tight, the bearing isn't seized or anything it was just a clean break. The crank was just a £100 Top Racing one, £200 cheaper than OEM but i'd have better off just buying a new one
  6. It looks like the right one Emilz, but at 39 euros, I'd be looking at buying an old bottom end if I could, and taking one out of that.
  7. Before you go and buy a Top Racing crank, have a read of this, not trying to put you off, but forewarned is forearmed so to speak, There have been other accounts of them being substandard, but this one came to hand, http://dt125r.activeboard.com/t49017647/ahhh-so-thats-why-it-went-bang/
  8. Look on the right hand side of that page, the last link you posted, it shows all other models with compatable parts, if not in stock, look in Ebay once you know other models you can use
  9. Here you go Emilz the part order numbers you can order these from any Yamaha dealer Parts 10 in picture are retaining circlips 99009-15400-00 2 off, parts 11 are thin thrust washers 90201-154E8-00 2 off, Part number 12 in picture is a nylon cog 10v-15651-00
  10. Yes that will fit Emilz, the Item you are buying from Ebay is 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 assembled in the picture below. You will also need parts 10,11x2,and 12 %5BIMG%5Dhttp://img444.imageshack.us/img444/659/kickstart.jpg Maybe a mod could move this thread to a more relevant section?
  11. How weird, was my first gig too, I went to see them when they played in Derby, about 73-74,I'd be about 13, my stepfather worked at Queen Street Swimming baths, which used to get boarded over in the Winter, so it could be used for concerts, he worked as security when groups came to play, so I was able to go backstage and meet them, get autographs etc, met Hawkwind and Lemmy and even got some wool off an Afghan coat he was wearing on the night. Welcome to the forum mate.
  12. Any kickstart assembly from any DTR engines from 1989 up to 2003 will fit, I'm not sure about earlier pre-89 year models. Have a look here from another forum I belong to, there's a lad that did a conversion to his DTRE which has the same engine as yourself. http://dt125r.activeboard.com/f556701/kickstarts/
  13. Some 2 stroke oil in an old kitchen cleaner spray bottle, that's been cleaned out, usually does the trick.
  14. Bit of a soak and squeeze man myself Dirty, and yes K&N do a filter oil, but it's an unnesessary expense in my opinion. 2 stroke oil's just as good, I reckon mate.
  15. By the way if you decide to get a new starter motor, I'd be interested in that one you have there, as on mine the top mounting has broken off it, and is only secured into the engine by one bolt, I'm presuming that the starter motor outer casing all splits up, so I could swap it over to fix mine.
  16. Converting to a kickstart isn't as difficult as it sounds, you can do it either by picking up a cheap DT125R engine so that you can cannibalise it for the internal cogs, or have a look on Ebay, now and again you can pick up the internal assembly for around £25, Yambits sell a new kickstart lever for about £20, kickstart lever retaining nut for about £4,and kickstart shaft seal about £4, I've already done this conversion on the TZR engine I have for my DTR project bike, and a couple of weeks ago managed to sort out a seized DTR engine for only £15, which I'll be using the kickstart assembly to convert my XT600 so I don't have to rely on just having a starter motor. Something that has let me down in the past. Mind you kicking a single pot 600cc bike over, is a daunting prospect in itself.
  17. Aye will do, cheers for that, missus gets over in Swansea once a fortnight with her job, might hitch a lift sometime soon, and have a good butchers at what he's got knocking about, do I need to take a rook of tools or are parts pretty much on shelves?
  18. It'll look nice with that Dakar kit on Foamy, a much bigger fuel tank too, where's this place nr Swansea then? am looking for rocking horse poo parts myself.
  19. Or even P. Staines, I'll bet his term of service couldn't come quickly enough, poor bogger
  20. A lad in a DTR forum had some in his bike, he posted this up "ok update, phoned Castrol and I have the recalled batch, anyway they are paying for a new oil change in my bike drained out of the system and also an inspection of my engine at my local Honda dealer, I still have the plastic bottle with some of the affected oil, they were very helpful and if there is damage they will rectify so all good so far, he did say that its a precautionary recall, the affected oil is made in Italy and a batch came to uk."
  21. Reminds me of a story about a Private and a Sergeant having a conversation, went something like this. Private " Sarge, if I was to call you a c*nt, you'd have me up on charges, yes?" Sergeant " Of course I would you horrible little scrote" Private " O.k then, but if I were to think it, there's not much you could do about that is there?" Sergeant " No private, this is true." Private " Right then Sarge................ I think you're a c*nt"
  22. Hey no probs Cynic, I appreciate it won't be everyones cup of tea, I'm all out on pushing the boundaries on this build, so many people have said you can't put a TZR engine in a DTR frame, well I'm pretty much there on that one. Turning a 124cc barrel into a 145cc using a 4mm oversize piston is another one that couldn't be done, unless you put on an Athena 150cc cylinder kit at nigh on £450 and even then you need to tickle that up a bit to get it matched up with the bottom end, well that's been done now and at pretty much at half the Athena price. Another boundary I want to push, is when I can post up that it's capable of doing more than the 100mph mark, without Up Yours pissing himsen, lol. Oh and cheers for pointing towards a JL pipe, I'll have a butchers, in regards to using one of those.
  23. No I know that mate, I was totally in exclusion of yourself in that comment, I know you've a penchant for the later bikes, and your knowledge of them has been really helpful to me , especially on the last project.
  24. Springs being powdercoated red, damper is all cleaned and given a chrome spray over, panels/tank will be a graphite charcoal grey colour, and depending on costs, hydrodipped with a graphite grey carbon weave. But before I get the panels, the next hurdle will be what exhaust to go for, a DEP which is tried and tested on the DTR engines, and very shiney, or try and grab a genuine TZR 4dl exhaust, which was developed for that particular Belgarda, block, there was 3 types of 4dl models, and each model had a different exhaust. one only problem with the TZR exhaust is that its underslung, and will need to modify it for the DTR frame. Regardless of which exhaust I go for, I'll definitely need one to get engine running spot on. Decisions, decisions eh? Anyroad Pat, hows that wee bike of yours coming on? be ready for Squires? lol.
  25. Cheers Ken and Sacha, just waiting on some bits back from powdercoating next, so I can then concentrate on getting the carb set up with the engine, and all running nicely. Then hopefully just sorting it out cosmetically.
