  1. Make up a licence plate with your old bikes reg number, put it on your present bike, go to your nearest regular petrol station, fill up , then drive away with out paying, I reckon you'll find out within the hour, if the cashier recognises you.

    Removing grips

Could just get 100 on my old kh250 by the end of blue line, and hoped the brakes worked by the upcoming island, if not it were straight up Kennilworth ave, but like you say that were clockspeed, gps would've more than likely been about 95 I reckon, in a 40 zone too lol, well it was 1979 pre cameras. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Manor+Rd/A5111&daddr=Warwick+Ave/A5111&geocode=FeNPJwMd-Rfp_w%3BFcM3JwMdxD7p_w&abauth=7a0b2eb1:Gz2nEDJBgX6YlRURix36Ky4QizE&hl=en&mra=ls&vps=14&jsv=341a&sll=52.901968,-1.49155&sspn=0.002022,0.005391&num=10 in't streetview good ey?
  3. Whenever I've had to get bearings out of castings I've used a little GENTLE heat around the casting, and loctite do a freeze spray to spray on the bearings, at the same time, so a combination of both should get the pesky little beggars out, oh and a tip I use for putting new bearings in, is to bang them in the freezer in clingfilm, or a sandwich bag, for a few hours, makes life much easier for putting them back in. Just my ten penneths worth.
  4. Well Phil I can honestly say I've never used them, and reading about them see that its not really welding as such, and not even brazing but soldering, good though I see for crap alloys like monkey metal, and dear mind £15 quid for 5, probably using 2 or 3. Tell ya what I'd do mate, I'd find a local stainless steel speciallist firm (bound to have a TIG plant knocking about), some back street one somewhere pretty close to you, take your case with you around about dinner time 12.30 -1.00 ish, find the chargehand or foreman, explain your predicament, he'll find one of the lads on their dinner break that will be able to TIG it up for you 10-15 mins, and I reckon you could precure his services for a "drink" about a tenner, i.m.o. jd mate, or we're back to liquid metal route, or theres another type very similar to Lumiweld and thats Techno-Weld, not sure how these compare in price mind.
  5. "sorry about this to you well endowed people is this the corect term " Erm no, but you wouldn't want it on the end of your nose as a wart.
  6. "Nev this is my get out of S!!!T option, end off the day only wires ,how hard can it be" Aye and a wedding cake is just flour and eggs!!
  7. Phil, re wiring loom, just had a chap round who's an auto electrician, and has helped me on stuff in the past, shown him the wiring diagram, and the old loom, he reckons he can make me up a new one,no problem, so he's gone off to work out how much, and will be letting me know in the next few days, only trouble is in the past he charges by the hour, and to be honest I've seen more movement in a glass eye, but he is good, I'll let you know how much, and if you're o.k with prices I'll put you on to him. Hope this helps.
  8. " asme 19 ! jammy bugger who paid for that is 12mths ? when I was a lad it was asme 9," OK, ok, I was trying to be clever and do it in roman numerals (1X), as is meant to be,and it came out 19. Anyroad you got the main franchise for typo's, or what? " still have my "Millwalky" hat" Only asmeIX lads were allowed to wear chromers, it were dried sweat soaked leather skull cap, for mere wire layers, lol. Good luck on your wiring btw.Must say I have a bit of a dilemna coming up myself, for when it comes to sorting out my 82'xt, as I want to keep it as pretty much standard as possible,as it's number 7 off the production line, but do I go 6v or change to 12v, hmmmmm. Oh aye, your barrel instead of welding, is it a crack? try looking at liquid metal, we used to use many moons ago some stuff called Belzona, came in two small kettle drum shaped containers, very good stuff.
  9. lol sorry ogoab have I got you confused with someone else on here who made up their own wiring harness, it's late am tired. Edit: Aye just read it was Cynic, made his own harness.
  10. Going a bit of subject has anyone used the 2.5 mm aluminiun STICK welding rods as have some repairs to do on barrel only ever welded aluminium with Tig and this was years ago!!!! and was bloody difficult,I did not realy have the knack of it " I once was a coded gas and arc welder, ,also bent fins any advise ? Yes mate You can weld with aluminium sticks but you'll need a dc plant ie Lincoln generator, and then you need to reverse the polarities, also you'll need to know the percentage of aluminium in barrel, to know if it can be welded successfully, hope this helps. 11. Been looking on ebay earlier for wiring looms for my dt, theres a seller on there called Yuniparts, based in Derby, making old school wiring looms, not one for mine unfortunately, but price looks good at £50 quid new compared to Yamaha at £150 Here have a butchers http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/YAMAHA-DT175-Type-1G1-WIRING-LOOM-HARNESS-1976-7-QH024-/150487973850?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item2309c83fda. Hope this helps. Oh and oldgitonabike, if you could make one up for mine and the price was right I'd be very interested mate.
  12. Looking nice that mate, you've just inspired me to look at my frame and see if I can add four lugs on it so I can have a top box on back of mine, good for fishing dead bodies, etc, mind you I'm thinking of fabricating those latch pins you have on trailor backs, to make it ultra quick release, daft question, but does it add much drag? i.e less economical as a Thule roofbox, car rack, does on a car?
  13. [bit worried about the third option, as I understand brake fluid is very, very flammable,
  14. I asked a bloke, the other week, who'd been a bike mechanic for over 40 years, what 2 stroke oil he reccomended, he suggested this stuff,Oregan Chainsaw Oil. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Oregon-Chainsaw-Super-Saw-Chain-Bar-Oil-Fits-Stihl-5L-/160564492554?pt=UK_Home_Garden_GardenPowerTools_CA&hash=item256263b90a and after seeing a tv program about how chainsaws are made and the high performance parts inside I'd consider giving it a go, the only worry I'd have is it's a mineral oil and from what I understand mineral isn't so good in 2t bikes. Anybody tried this? or can anybody enlighten me about the pros and cons of synthetic oil, v mineral? cheers Nev
  15. Putting the cart before the horse there, in my opinion, it might have been safer if some bugger had thought about designing a front brake for the bike!! Or is that its front brake? lol
  16. I had myself a close shave just the other day, I'd just turned into a road, and was about to accelerate as it was all clear ahead, when about 25 feet infront of me a Nissan Micra drivers door suddenly flew open, with an 85 year old woman starting to get out, there was no way I could brake as I would have gone into both the woman and the door, but also I'd noticed a van coming the other way, possibly a head on I thought, any way I opened it up and managed to weave inbetween the car door and the on coming van, luckily I keep the bike in tip top comndition, and the throttle was responsive, and I managed to avoid a nasty incident, but I swear the distance between me and the van must have been millimetres and not inches, deffinately a squeaky bum moment.

    whats the reg

Aye, I'm in the same boat, have frame and engine number, for the XT125, but I need to get the original reg number,so I can get it back on the road.I've rung up and written to to Swansea, they told me to write a letter to Exeter dvla, which I did, they just told me they couldn't help, and to write to Swansea, who in turn told me I needed to get in touch with Exeter DVLA, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAArgggggggggggh!!!!!!!!!!, The daft thing is, if it was all road legal, and had been stolen from me, but found in a field somewhere, minus the number plate, plod would soon be knocking on my door, by using the vin number, and by presumably getting in touch with DVLA at Swansea.
  18. Aye I do, I live nr Newton, but doubt mine will be ready for then as its in pieces, going through a renovation, so more than likely I'll be on the Rieju.
  19. 'DO NOT GREASE THE ROLLERS' they need to freely 'roll' up and down each of the variator ramps that they sit in.Nev
  20. I recently asked an old boy who has been a motorbike mechanic for about 40 years, which 2t oil he reckoned I oughta use, he reccommended " Orange county chainsaw oil" now I've not yet got around to using this stuff but did a google and its cheap as chips, just wondered if anybody else has ever heard/used this stuff, also I'm in the middle of a renovation of a '92' dtr 125 and will be deffinately going for the premix, as the trouble I've had with my lads scooters, semi-seizing due to pumps packing up is unbelievable, and expensive, I'm thinking of a ratio of 40 to 1, does this sound about right, for the 125? Cheers Nev
  21. Hi, been on forum a while now,but never got round to posting, my new bike a '93' DT 125R has finally made me start posting in here. Hopefully I'll be able to add as much info on here,as any info from members I may need, in the process of restoring my bike. Cheers Nev
