  1. Does anyone know what size the nut is on the rear spindle of a 2009 xt660z tenere? My bike is in canada and i need to take a socket with me when i go back over there. I think if i went down to my local dealer with a tape measure they would think me a little wierd. Cheers all
  2. Found this if anyone is interested. Didnt think the numbers related to the width. And the Tenere is a 520. "Chain size is in inches, the three digit number used to discribe the chain size is based on the "rule of eights". The first digit is for chain pitch. This is the distance between the pins. The second and third digits combine for roller width, with a decimal point inserted between the second and third digits. For example, a 420 chain has a pitch of 4/8" = 1/2" (12.70mm) and a roller width of 2.0/8" = 1/4" (6.35mm). A 525 chain (the size my bike uses) has a pitch of 5/8" (15.88mm) and a roller width of 2.5/8" (7.94mm). A 530 chain has a pitch of 5/8" (15.88mm) and a roller width of 3.0/8" (9.52mm). There are a number of chain sizes in use, and chain manufacturers may have slightly different specs for roller diameter, sprocket width, etc. But a 525 chain from one manufacturer will have the same pitch as a 520, 525, 530, or 532 chain from another and run smoothly on any 525 sprocket from any manufacturer."
  3. Indeed i was posting when it broke down. I was stuck at a friends in Calgary. They dont make the XT in North America so it was a pain getting part numbers etc. After i downloaded a wiring diagram and got hold of a multi meter i traced the fault to a dead rectifier. I crossed referenced it and it was the same as an R1 which they do have in N.A but it still would have taken a week to get one from Europe and after nearly a week of mincing around i had had enough and came home. The bike is still over there and i plan to go back in a couple of months and resume the adventure.
  4. Yeah thats my Tenere on its side on Ruta 40 Argentina. I got blown off of it by the wind. It was a little bit breezy to say the least!!!

  6. Thanks, but what do the figures relate to? only curious
  7. Anyone know the chain 'Gauge' on a 2009 xt660z tenere? Trying to buy a chain riveter and it specifies it will work on chains '420 to 530'. Is the tenere in that range and does it really matter? Cheers
  8. Can anyone tell me where the Rectifier/regulator is on a 2009 xt660z Tenere? Cheers
  9. Hi all Its been a while. I have just 'completed' a ride from Ushuaia to Alaska on my 2009 Tenere. It died on me 25 miles from Hyder Alaska. A friend towed me in for the last stretch. It appears my battery is no longer being charged. The stator seems to be sending out voltage to the 3 pin plug so the problem lies between that plug and the battery. I found a small hole in the top of what i think is the voltage regulator. Maybe it got some water in it and shorted. The part number for that item is 5vk-81950-40.Does anyone know if this is likely to be the problem? I have checked all the fuses (unless there are some hidden ones somewhere) and looked over the wiring. I am now stuck at a friends in Calgary and it would take a week for the dealers over here to get that part in (unless i DHL it from the uk). Its a bit difficult to diagnose the problem without a wiring diagram and multimeter. Any suggestions welcome. (Also any suggestions on the best way of shipping the bike back. Seems to be over complicated and pricey) Cheers all
  10. P.S 'Gasup' Where could i get the led bulbs and HID kit from? My bike is on a ship on the Atlantic at the mo so i cant pop out and see what bulbs it takes so a description of the required would be handy too. Cheers!
  11. Once again dude another full on reply. I will have to look up what power requiments the clothing adds up to and check it against your reply. A simple 'yes' would have been better though lol. Thanks again
  12. Hey all Im doing a very long tour soon with the missus which includes some very cold weather. We both have heated gloves vests and insoles. I have an 09 XT660Z Tenere and am a bit worried about the amp drain of all this apparel on the battery. Does anyone know if this will be to much draw for the battery in cold weather or as it is a new bike will it be ok? Cheers.
  13. Nope Thats about it for now but i will be sure to pester you if i think of anything else!
  14. Gas up Again excellent reply! How do you get on with the seat doing all those miles? I dont find it to comfy but i did get an airhawk recently but havnt tried it yet
