  1. oldgitonabike, it has been on the ON position since I got it back from the guy who cleaned my carbs, but now feeling like he did partial cause I replaced my needles and seats in each carb. I wish he would have told me to get new jets cause I would have, the carbs were already broke down... I mean give me a break. But the old saying goes, "you get what you pay for." DAMN IT.... Please excuse me, lol.. this is my 1st bike. And she was house kept, not outside and it's pretty Maxim X with 34K original miles on her. But I'm swithing to the PRI position as soon as I get home. I hope it's that simple but my luck isn't that good. What about if my bike is over heating and I just replaced the thermostat? I flushed the radiator out and put fresh water mixed equally with antifreeze. Good it be water pump? And my fan came on 1 times since I've rode it. Could that be a sensor gone or the fan motor? Hope it's a sensor vs the fan motor.
  2. I replaced the thermostat on Thursday. The old one just looked back cause of the dirty water in radiator. It didn't look stuck, but I replaced it anyway. Rode for bout 10 minutes if that and heated up on me. So I parked it. I'm hoping not, but I think it might be the water pump. Me and my neighbor flushed my radiator out the other day and it was running. And with the cold water running thru, it didn't even heat up. So, to me; it kinda sound like the water pump; would you think? Just using common sence, if there is a purpose of the water pump, to pump the water to cool it off, not working; then that would equal over heating, right? I want to, got to, fix my 85 up right, but I hope I can find a used pump, but new would be better.
  3. I've recently had my carbs cleaned & synced. When I start her, sometimes, I have to hold the throttle all the way open to keep her running. Then when she's running (warming up) when I twist the throttle; it boogs down or cuts off. I know this is NOT suppose to happen when getting on the throttle. Can somebody, ANYBODY, please help me out. I'm new to riding and I want to get the kinks out of my 85 Maxim X and I want to have her running right. Has anubody else ran into a problem like this or can assist me with fixing my issue. I thank you al in advance for you time & efforts. chrismc101
  4. I just got my 1985 Yamaha Maxim X from my uncle. It sat in his kitchen, yes kitchen for at least 12 months. After getting my carbs done, I started her and rode her a lil on Sat. nite. It wasn't long before she started to go into the red. Rode back down the street and the fan comes on. Rode for bout 10 more minutes and fan hasn't been back on since. But it still runs hot. Could my thermostat be gone? Is this the true sign of a stuck thermostat or has the 24 year old thermostat called it quits? Since I did hear and see the fan come on, could that be a faulty wire on the fan motor? Somebody help me please. I'm ready to ride my bike but I want her to be riding right; you know? Thanks in advance. chrismc101
