  1. Hi Tony! I had the cover off and I was looking really close for any groove anywhere in it and I cannot find anything. If you found that service bulletin online can you tell me where you found it so I can take a look at? It makes sense but too bad it does not say dt250/400 also. Thanks for your help,DM
  2. [ dm hi i have had four dt 175s and all had that same thing on casing,i was led to believe it was there for the earlier motors that had points to allow condensation out as you said,i am also led to believe cdi set up does not need it. cheers mark. Hi mark! Thanks for your answer. I am not so sure about that because I know 1975 Yamaha dt 400's have that breather installed and they are configured with CDI ignition. Thanks again for you help. DM
  3. Hi! Anybody have any idea why the BREATHER SKU: 583-15371-00-00, hose SKU: 90445-07040-00 (L510)and clamp SKU: 90465-10096-00 seem to be missing on 1978 YAMAHA DT 400s? There is a provision on the magneto cover where the breather would go but there is no hole their! I checked out some close up pictures of other 1978 Yamaha dt 400s and it is the same as mine. If you check the parts diagram at http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/default.aspx it is supposed to be their. I am not sure if all 1978 dt 400s do not have it or just some. I believe it lets moiture escape due to condensation from the stator/magneto compartment. I just wanted to see if anybody else noticed that if you own on these motorcycles. Could the factory have forgotten to install it on some of these motorcycles? If Anyone has any ideas about this let me know thanks, dm
  4. Well I cannot believe he makes those springs there a strange design, he must have some type of machine shop or something. Tell him thanks if you see him. I told him those springs not only fit the ty250 but they also fit the U.S. Versions DT400 1975 and I bet they fit other motorcycles to like the DT 250 certain years U.S. versions, he actually already knew that. I bet a lot of people are missing those springs because these enduros sit kinda low and those springs take a beating and It sucks trail riding without them you could end up crashing because of those missing. I bet people would buy them if they knew he had them and they fit those other motorcycles. They are the same part numbers and I bet most 1975 and 1976 U.S. DT's are missing them due to being unavailable from Yamaha and their low ground clearence for an enduro anyway!
  5. As for the different CDI boxes and source coils and pulsers I would think they would save money if they made them so they could fit more then just a couple of years and a few motorcycles. What you are saying is that it will be harder or less cost effective for an aftermarket manufacturer to make a cdi box, source coil, pulser coil, etc. if they keep changing them all the time?
  6. Interesting thanks for that information! Just one thing I forgot to add is that this system is not CDI it is points and condensor so it does not have a "box" Thanks again. P.S. I e-mailed a couple of what I would call experts on coils and let me see what they say. If they sound like they know what they are talking about I think it would be a good idea to post their responses on here to help out anybody with a problem with a source coil in the future.
  7. I checked it and I am getting .4 to .6 ohms. I bet that could possibly do something bad to the ignition coil, like burn it out because I already burned one out with this new source coil hooked up, although the ignition coil was old and used so I am not 100% sure but the more testing I do and the more feedback I here from people I am thinking the worst. I asked the guy that rewound my source coil if it was rewound wrong could it be possible to actually burn out an ignition coil. His answer was "Highly doubtful, you would have to have used a couple guages thicker wire than the original wire for that to happen" The problem is is that I think he did use to thicker wire. He did not mention number of turns so I am worried he did not pay attention to the number of turns and plus he should have check the resistance when he was done to see that it was at least close. I just bought a new ignition coil from Yamaha and it cost me over $70.00 I do not want to mess that one up to. My lighting coil is also all messed up and he rewound that one to. I blew my headlight and indicator lgihts out and the battery is not charging, a new headligh cost about $58.00. I wish I found this website here http://www.smiffy.com/gary/512coil.htm this is the same lighting/charge coil in my motorcycle and I could have most likely rewound it myslef becasue I have done a pulser coil and was successful but I could not understand this lighting coil becasue it has two "take off's" throughout the coil windings and I had no idea how they attached or how they work but now I do. O yea I am getting infinite resistance from the charging wires, that is bad! I am not mad at the company that did this well just not yet anyway lets see if they help me or just not care and keep my money. I do not think I can fight for the money because I just have the worst luck with things like this and my credit card company is going to start to think I have some type of problem or something. I think this will be the third time withing a year I was slighted purposely or not. O yea it cost me $150.00 to get the coils rewound. I hope I can take it out one the trail this year hahahahah
  8. I fixed that link, That was strange. It makes no sense to me why the figure is so much different between The DT 250 and DT 400 source coil ohms. I wish I knew. What about the lighing coils they are different just look at them. The DT 400 has some type of extra coil attached to the lighting/charge coil. One more thing is that the yamaha diagrams are saying the DT 250 uses 30 watt headlight and the DT 400 uses 35 watt headlight but guess what my factory Yamaha manual says they are both supposed to use 35 watt headlights in 1975.
  9. I cannot believe I found it. It was at the bottom of a parts list here http://www.motogrid.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/2/yamaha.aspx It is supposed to be 1.65 ohms. What is the best way to test that? I think I should just check the coil wire at both ends?
  10. You know now that you mention JT sprockets I actually ordered a "JT" sprocket from Cheap Cycle Parts and it said For 1975 Dt400 But it was the same type of sprocket sprocket the BitzforBikes sent me. So I think JT sprockets has a mistake in their inventory they think all the DT 400's use the same sprocket all the up to 1983 or whenever they stopped making that model. Cheap cycle parts gave me a full refund. I know it is not completely BitzforBikes fault well mostly it is the suppliers fault but I just wish they could have believed me that it was the wrong sprocket. I went to parts diagrams and I even contacted the person from England to help show them the problem. In the end Paul did offer half store credit and half of my money back but Emma told me I could get a full refund before that. I would have taken that half store credit half refund but I did not need anything else especially due to shipping costs from England. I only order from U.K. if I cannot find the part anywhere else. I bet your sick of hearing about this by now so I will get on with my life instead of complaining about it haha. Well, thanks for the info on the sprockets
  11. Yamaha DT 250 1974,1975,1976 Source Coil part number 438-81312-20-00 Does anybody know the resistance for the Source coil on this motorcycle and how to check it. I would think I would take the magneto cover off and check both ends of the coil or can I just check it from the wiring harness to ground? The problem is I do not know the resistance it is supposed to have. Has anybody checked their source coil or do you know what the ohms are supposed to be? I cannot find it in the factory book or the clymer book! Thanks, Darren
  12. This is that guy from England he has a website and owns a Yamaha DT 400 European version I sent him a picture of my sprocket and the one BitzforBikes sent me and he said they sent me the wrong one I even checked an Original sales brochure for the 1975-76 Yamaha DT 400 both U.S and U.K. models and the sprockets are the same. BitzforBikes tried to tell me they were different but I completely proved them wrong I did A complete investigation to make sure I was not the one who made the mistake. I deleted his e-mail because I do not know if he would like me putting it on another website. From: clive To: [email protected] Subject: Re: My original DT 400 sprocket Picture Date: Sun, 13 Sep 2009 10:13:03 +0100 Hi Your original one is definitely the right one, the one they have sent you I would guess is for the DT400mx, I had the same problem when I needed one for the rebuild I ended up with one machined from the original one in aluminum. Try he may have one or may be able to point you in the right direction. Yamaha p/n 214-25440-10 (40t) as far as I know the 205 is the same apart from 44t. Clive
  13. You asked why did I order parts from the U.K., well because they were the only company that supposedly had the sprocket for the 1975-1976 Yamaha DT 400. I actually ordered a different part (peg return springs) from a different company at http://www.tytrials.co.uk/trailandtrialsuk/prod_270582--9-amp-10-Pair-of-Footrest-Springs-TY250-Twinshock.html. They are the only company in the word that has started making these springs again, as far as I know. I checked everwhere. Now you can understand why I order from the U.K. sometimes. Thanks, Darren
  14. Well I guess Paul is probably a good guy possibly he was in a bad mood or something and just took it out on me I do not know. My rear wheel is 100% original and I talked to a person in England that owns a European version on the Yamaha DT 400B and I sent him the pictures of my sprocket and the one that BitzforBikes sent me and the the guy from England his website is here, http://www.allanson.vispa.com/dtpage.htm told me that the sprocket Bitzforbikes sent me is wrong. He said he had the same problem with his sprocket and he ended up having to get it made just like I did. One more thing to add, Paul said if I would have looked at the picture (diagram) on their website of the sprocket this would have never happened but the problem was when I purchased the sprocket it said "picture (diagram) unavailable". After I reviewed the e-mail from Paul about the pic. I went back to their website and all of a sudden it was their. They put the diagram up after I bought the part and complained in a nice manner.I have a bad fealing is was not coincidence. It could be that I am in the U.S.A. and it is much harder to get your money back from a business in another country. I still lost $24.00. One last thing if a company tells you they will give you a refund and then go back on their word that is wrong! I went throught the trouble and found the some of the e-mails from them about giving me a refund here they are; From: Emma ([email protected]) Sent: Thu 9/10/09 7:39 AM To: 'Darren Massaro' ([email protected]) Hi Darren, after further investigation, i cannot understand why this sprocket does not fit? We now have 2 options, either you can return it to us for a refund, or measure your old sprocket dimentions and ill try to match it up. The sprocket I ordered was supposed to be high carbon steel to OEM standard (1975-76 DT 400) and the one you sent me is some type of aluminum and will not fit my motorcycle. The bolt holes are WAY off. It says on the reciept 853-43 Steel Rear Sprocket but it is not a steel sprocket. How do I go about getting a refund.
