  1. Thanks for the advice - I added a bit more oil at a time and hey presto, the level did get up towards the top of the "U" so alls well -still a bit tricky to see but easier now I've got a stand to hold the bike upright !!! Andy
  2. The exup valve on my recently aquired FZR1000 is in a really sorry state - seized and the pulley is basically bits of rust (non existent really) plus the cables are frayed. So.....is it worth repairing or simply replacing the downpipes and collector box with a new system (without the exup). If anyone's done this does it need re-jetting or does the engine run well without the exup? I'd have to replace so much I'm thinking it can't be economic to replace the entire exup assembly? Thanks for any advice, Andy
  3. Having bought a 1991 exup, I'm having trouble seeing the oil level in the sight glass. All I can see is a "U" shape - the rest is dark or obscured. I've changed the oil and filter and it took about 2.5L to get the oil towards the top of this "U" shape by adding a bit at a time. Not sure if this is correct. I found this picture which looks exactly the same as mine. Can anyone offer some advice please? Andy
  4. Thanks for the tip about the SE model - the german springs look interesting and the cost seems reasonable too. Andy
  5. I'm keen to replace the fork springs on an '81 XS250c (very soggy now !!). Having looked on sites such as Hagon for their progessive springs, they don't have a listing for the xs250 (only later xs400 models). Does anyone know if replacement springs are available. Would new "standard" springs help or is there a different make / type which would be OK? Or...without pulling a fork apart does anyone have the standard dimensions? Andy
  6. I have a really nice restored XS250C. It runs OK but when throttle is closed the engine revs drop slowly which makes changing gear etc interesting !! Idle speed is set to 1200rpm but it only holds that when its hot i.e. after a good run. Everything looks OK, ignition is set up right, - plugs are OK, running slightly rich on both cylinders perhaps but not too much. Is there anything simple to check out. I'm considering a full carb strip but am unsure what to actually check. Carb butterflies snap shut when the throttle is released so is there something else? Do the carbs need synchronising. I'd appreciate any help / advice !!
