  1. Hi there, Happy new year to you all! I've come with cap in hand to ask your advice please. If there is anybody who knows about dragstars and engine block paint peeling/bubbling. My bike is fairly old (but still in sound condition), however, the engine block is beginning to bubble in places, not massively but enough to try and stop it before it gets out of hand. About the size of a penny in two place. The fins are also beginning to lose their paint on the edges. The paint is a grey colour but I don't know exactly the colour code for the paint block. I would like to paint it in those spots with VHT paint if possible. Any ideas what colour I could use for the engine block? I just want to do a repair job nothing too drastic like repaint the whole block. I assume that the colour is a standard colour for the bike. Any help you really be appreciated, Thanks.
  2. Thanks lads, It's good to get some help on this. Finding parts has taken me a few years. New parts are completely out of kilter with reality. So these American parts could be the ideal solution. Many thanks again!
  3. Hi there, looking for some advice. I want to buy a chrome clutch and oil filter cover and a stator cover for my xvs 1997 (metallic orange colour). Really really hard to find second hand parts for this bike. So i searched some sites in the states and have found parts but I'm not sure if they are compatible with European models. I also have the 1997 model which is the first xvs 650 model. Are the case covers compatible compatible on v-stars and dragstars? I tried looking at the part number and they seem the same but one has an extra 00 at the end. Anyone here with experience of buying parts in the states? Also if not possible, what year do the parts change on this version of the xvs? Is it 2002 or 2004 or are they all the same. Any ideas would be great. Thanks.
  4. Thanks mate, Yeah I'm beginning to resign myself to the fact i might as well bend over and take the pain as it were and shell out that kind of cash. I love dragstars but man parts are really difficult to get, in my experience.
  5. hi there, I'm looking for a fuel cap for my XVS 650 (1997 model) I'm finding it very hard to find one. i was driving along yesterday and it flew off as i was driving, the spring broke of the release mechanism, hopped along the road and into the ditch by the time i pulled up and ran back i couldn't find it, gone forever... That's what you get for not fixing the damn thing in the first place. I looked up wemoto.com and mandp.co.uk and they don't have them in stock. It's a rare enough item i would imagine. So hence why i am here now. Any advice of where to look? I know in the states that V-star is the equivalent of the drag star, but my model is 1997 and it only came out there in 1998. The petrol is evaporating as i speak.... Thanks, Kevo...
  6. Hi everyone, I'm new to this site, so I'm looking for any advice out there! If you can help it would be great thanks. Well the problems I have with my bike are when it is very wet or cold conditions. I drive a Virago XV 250cc. She's a 2001 reg, the problems i am having with her is when it gets very wet (I live in Ireland, so that is most of the year hahaha) the bike seems to lose power, almost like a fuel line fault but I know it is not that because i have checked that and nothing seems to be the matter. Personally i think it must be an electric fault but I'm not sure. I have talked to a friend about it and he seems to think that it could be a 'carb icing problem', but that could only be in cold conditions and not wet conditions. The bike seems to stutter and become sluggish and lose power. She will cut out when i slow down, especially in traffic, and this is a nightmare in town and city driving. So i am at a loss really about this. Instead of sending it in to be looked at I thought i could post a topic here as maybe this bike has problems like this , i am not sure, usually it is fine but it happening with more frequency these days, probably because the bike is getting older. I look after the bike and she gets a full service twice a year. I don't do that much mileage on her and she is always garaged everyday/night. She's a clean bike so I have no problems with rust or any other maintenance issues. So if anybody here knows about this problem I would be really grateful if anyone could advise me. BTW, i have checked the spark plugs and the caps and they are always fine, no cracks on the cables and the plugs are always dry. So can't think of anything else really... Anyway, cheers for reading this post and i hope I can get a reply soon. Kevin.
