  1. So I got her to kick on and run. (New spark plugs and some carb cleaner) She sounds good and I'm having a good response from clutch and throttle. However there is one problem. At half choke she idles right where she should between 1and2 thousand rpms. But when she's warmed up and I set it to full choke the RPM's kick up like I'm revving it and settle at about 4500. They dont decrease until I back off the choke and I've played with the idle screw to no avail. Thoughts or suggestions?
  2. Just bought a used Yamaha 400 XS. I bought it a week or so ago and I had it running (roughly) and rode it around a bit *driveway*. I parked it and the next day it would not start. Replaced the battery, still nothing. Dont know what could havve changed. I've toggled the choke and given it a bit of gas. It will kick over but not run. Any ideas.
  3. Hey. New to the club. I just purchased a 1982 Yamaha 400 Maxim for close to nothing and it has a few problems. This is my first bike and I am totally unfamiliar with any mechanics or bikes of any kind. 1) Bike runs really roughly. Previous owner cleans the carbs but believes they need to be rebuilt or replaced. Can I do this myself? I am mechanically inclined and with a good manual I'd be confident (considering the shop wants 200 just to clean and rebuild them. 2) Bike dies when the clutch is engaged. Cuts off. No idea why. 3) Bike dies when put in gear, even with clutch pulled in. No idea why. 4) Bleed caliper(sp?) on front brake is broken. How hard is it to replace this brake? I have a set of parts and tools but am hesitant to to any work myself without a clue as to what is involved. Thanks for reading and I look forward to riding with your help.
