  1. Thankyou guys :-)

Does anyone no how to obtain a registration number from a vin number only? As I would like to try & keep this with its number :-)

Dirty dt were in leicester are you m8?

I am a Londoner living in sunny Loughborough. I have a couple of RD400's somewhere about the house.

As for the reg from a VIN - there was a guy - nothing to do with this site - who used to do it. I used him a couple of times. I have his old email and I will PM it to you although I can't guarantee he can still do it.

  2. Throwovers or a waterproof stuffa bag are the best bet.

If I was doing it I would post clothes to my mum and ride without any paniers. Alternatively go to Primark when you get there and buy some stuff for £3 each.

  3. ....do you guys have experience with super hard to find, very pricey big end bearings? and conrods?

Yes and no. I have a 1965 YA-6 Santa Barbara.

The crank parts are not hard to find LINKY

Type the part numbers into fleabay and some bargains will come up. $1000 sounds a lot but you have 2 of most things so double the cost. I think another thing is the support for smaller, older, 2 strokes your side of the pond. In the UK there are many specialists who would work on this however, in the US small 2 stroke bikes appear to be of limited value.

UK crank rebuild prices can be seen here LINKY It may be worth emailing them and asking for a full rebuild price as it may work out cheaper - espesially if you can source and send the parts for the rebuild.

  4. What's the standard spec sized tyre?

A 4.00 will be about the same width as a 100 but because the 100 has a 90 profile the 4.00 may have a bigger tyre wall.

4.00 means 4 inches across and probably a 4 inch tyre wall. 100/90 means 100mm across and 90% of the 100mm tyre wall. Imperial and metric tyres are measured at different parts of the tyre so it is not as straight forward as it seems.

  5. I disagree with using easy start. Yes it will start almost anything but that doesn't sort out the issue.

I would take the plugs out and leave out overnight. Pour a teaspoon of engine oil into each plug hole and rock the bike back and forth, in gear, to get the Pistons moving up and down to circulate the oil on the bores. I would recheck both inlet and exhaust valve gaps. Then a teaspoon of petrol into each bore, plugs back in and caps on and with choke on but no throttle try and start it.

  6. "Superb camping ..... Facilities" I guess that depends on their definition of "superb"! It wouldn't be the same as mine though! For me, the people make this event what it is and it deserves a little more input from the venue.

I won't be going this year, I have something else on.

  7. Most modem connectors are available but even with a wiring diagram, the length of each cable, and the connector layouts where they meet existing wiring, will be crucial.

  8. Hello dirty DT. What's the card site? And also I have no loom at all nothing to go on .so that would be a problem

I think Airheads answer was better than mine and it is well worth investigating.

  9. Not that I am aware of. There is a guy on the ACRD site that makes them for RD's - and a very good job he does too! I have a new RD 400 one still in a big postal tube that he made for me a while ago. He may be able to make one for you. His forum name is Mr. Wiring wizard. He may need your old one to make it though.
