Hi All an update on the speed saga, i thought i'd have one last try sorting the bike out before i set it alight lol, phone a mate and he said check the 2 gaskets on the head and barrell, did this and found there was no gasket between the barrell and the block, luckily i have some paper gasket so made one, anyway i took the barrell off and checked that and found 4 gouges in the cylinder each one about 1.5mm deep and some scoring on the piston, even a non mechanicaly minded person like me knows this aint good, by luck i have a spare barrell and piston from another engine, is there anything i should check before putting it all back together, i've given the barrell a good clean and oiled it and checked there's no crap in the cylinder but any advice will be appreciated, cheers alec
  3. hi, i'm no mechanic so if this is totally ridiculous please tell me, but if the oil seal behind the front cog (think its the crankshaft oil seal ) is leaking would this make a difference to performance, i only ask as i as looking at bikes on ebay and one said its not pulling like it used to as oil seal is leaking (it was an rxs100) cheers alec
  4. Hi All, i'm just about to take the carb off my yb100 to check float settings and make sure its clean, i'm still having problems getting over 45 mph out of it, my question is how do i know if the floats are set right, i have a spare carb with a broken bowl but i cant see any marks to tell me where the fuel line is if there is one, a local bike mechanic told me to bend the tab till the petrlo was half way up the chevrons ? there are no marks at all in the carb bowl. cheers alec
  5. Hi All, i've just done the headset bearings on my yb100 and it was an absolute nightmare, all the old grease had solidified and the steering was jerky so i thought cant be hard to do ( was i ever wrong ) i didn't realise all the bearings were loose so clever old me undid the bolts and took out the bottom yoke on my freshly hardcored hard standing not funny to watch all these little balls falling between the hardcore, after about 2 hours carefully moving rocks to find the little beggars i finally got them all cleaned up and regreased in place, i was going to go to the local bike shop and buy new ones but as per they had no stock, anyway got it all back together about half hour ago and i never realised how smooth the steering really is, i then look on ebay and see that you can buy tapered bearings for the yb and do away with the ball bearing idea, the bike shop failed to tell me about this, anyway its all done now and it feels relly nice to ride but i swear next time it goes in the shop. after all that does anyone know of an easier way to grease these bearings as there are no greasing points on the headset,
  6. Hello all, thinking about selling or trading my yb100 1986 in (need to get a 125), i've repainted the tank and put a new rear tyre on, Fosdyke very kindly came round and sorted the oil pump timing, its running really nice now but as i'm nearly 15 stone my missus says i look to big for it, has anyone got any ideas how much these bikes are worth in good condition, or of anyone wanting to swap from a 125 (god thats high hopes lol) thanks for reading this and i hope someone ca advise me. Alec
  7. also i had the power valve kit fitted and a stan stevens stage 3 tune with uprated clutch and gearbox, went over 100 mph no problem, that was after the bike shop blew it up on its first service though so was all done on waranty, alec
  8. Hi there, i had a 1989 tzr125 brand new (showing my age) it came either with fairing as an optional extra or without as standard, the fairings are all the same from what i remember so you should be able to pick one up and fit it straight on, regards alec
  9. Morning all, i done the fork oil seals on my yb100 last weekend, took it out for a run yesterday and it felt hard on the front end, have i put too much fork oil in (approx 160mls) or not enough i didn't fill it right up it was about 2cm from top, regards alec
  10. Thanks Jim, Its not overly loose just i think i read somewhere on here that someone had problems due to a loose chain, i do have about an inch of play though so i might have a go at tightening it later, am i right in saying it should be about 2cm of play in neutral or have i been told wrong, cheers alec
  11. Does having a slightly loose chain affect the power on a yb100,
  12. I've now been told a rxs100 one will fit with a bit of jiggling about i'm really getting confused now lol
  13. Hi Jim that would be great only trouble is i'm in kent so would have to post it, obviously i'd cover that but how can we go about it, regards alec
  14. hi all some people say the fs1e front mudguard wont fit a yb100, can someone tell me why, i have added a link to an ebay fs1e front guard and the bracket looks exactly the same and other than being slightly longer on the rear part it looks no different, cheers alec http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=250430124876
  15.
