  1. literally the day i stopped steam cleaning the bike and only used a bucket and sponge the problem went away. hope you get it sorted mate regards.
  2. My 2000 R6 had the same problem and I linked it to how i was cleaning the bike. As I used a steam cleaner water was being pushed into the coils causing the engine to misfire and cut out at low revs such as slowing down for traffic lights. Hope this helps. Regards
  3. Guys don't know if you are building a bike from scratch or have damaged panels but have you tried going to a paintshop to get a quote for repairs, shouldnt be too expensive and your local dealer may be able to help with that. Regards

    Old Noob

Welcome mate good to have more experience on the forum
  5. Hi guys long time no see haven't been around due to the lack of a bike, though now in the hunt for a new one. Hope all is well and no one has had the same misfortune as I had recently. Regards
  6. Hey, as a training acoustic engineer all I can say is get ear plugs ASAP. You are looking at noise levels of around 100db (SPL for the technically minded) which after even small amounts of exposure to will damage you hearing. You can expect to get high tone deafness that means in extreme cases you will find is hard to understand different accents especially over phones. At the very least you will get tinnitus. Please please look after your hearing it will worsen with age normally don't make matters worse. Regards
  7. unfortunately the yokes are a completely different design mate as the forks go through the yokes on the modern R6's. Regards
  8. On this engine there are two types of 33 bhp restrictor and I only know of one solution unfortunately. There are two different things making the restriction on is a casing attached to the throttle body that stops it being opened fully. The other are plates underneath the carbs which prevent the full amount of air fuel mix getting to the cylinder. As I have a R6 I de-resrticted the method my be slightly different but if you need a hand ask. Regards
  9. Cheers guys sorry for the late reply have been working a lot unfortunately. I am mended now just waiting for the insurance company to get their thumb out of their arses and pay up as the beast has been officially written off now. Regards
  10. As far as I know the 2CT's are an even softer compound made predominantly for bikes that are used a lot for track day use. This doesn't mean they are useless on the road though. One thing about normal Pilot Powers in the rain they can take a fair amount of time to warm up, still a great tyre.
  11. If you put on a performance airfilter you will have to re jet the carbs as the engine will be running too lean due to the extra gas flow the exaust and filter give it.

    My New Bike - R6

People should take notice of the time period because even if it isn't being used for the amount of miles it says in the book the engine will still need a look over and tune up.
  13. With mine I had around 4000 miles out of the back the front was only half worn though.
  14. I had pilot powers on my r6 they are the sex. When you get the rear you'll notice the bike will turn in quicker yet be more stable in a corner because they have a different profile to other tyres. They don't last a great amount of time though, but id rather have grip over mileage. Regards
  15. All the vacuum hoses are likely to be on top or around the injectors and other parts of the engine, which means it's a tank and airbox off jobby. Shouldn't be too much of an issue as most bikes have similar ways of keeping them in place. Regards
  16. Welcome mate good choice of stead. Regards

    Turbo for an xjr

I don't know about all of the mods but i know you will have to get low compression pistons and a heap of other engine internals. This is a very extensive mod on a bike because of the high compression ratios they have which don't suit turbo's at all.
  18. With those mods the bike will be running lean as there will be more air going into the engine than is needed. To sort this out you will need to buy a power commander PCIII and select a suitable map for it. These are basically plug and play so easy to install. As far as the cat goes the slip ons should fit straight on to it but I would personally go for a full system for better performance gains. Regards
  19. Depends because some of them come with the restrictor plate as well. If you can see what looks like an oval on the bottom of the air filter it is on still. Basically the filter should look the same shape and size both top and bottom. Regards
  20. It is true it is just a plate on the bottom of the air filter. If you take it out of the air box all you have to do is pop off the rivets and the plate will come apart. Apparently its a non reversible mod though. Regards

    Milleage on tyres

I had michelin pilot powers which are the next step up from the sports in terms of grip. I got around 3000 miles out of the rear before I changed it the front was only half worn. Best tyres I've ever had though. The grip and turn in on them was sensational. Regards
  22. Whereabouts are you based? The paint code should be on the underside of the seat. Regards
  23. Do you wash it wish steam cleaner cos it sounds like there is water in the coils which caused a similar problem for my bike. Regards
  24. If I can find the one for my 2000 R6 you can have it as the bike is now dead. Dont know if there are any differences. Regards
