  1. Here we go again. More freebies. Can you get me one please? I always found the clutch heavy, so I converted mine to hydraulic, sooooo much easier. Throttle can be a bit snatchy when you come on the gas again after easing off, so you should keep on top of throttle bodies balancing. Keep the front brake calipers nice and clean
  2. Tyres and tyre pressures topic cropped in the pit garage amongst fellow riders, with differing views, but thats expected as plenty of different tyres and bikes there. The tyre fitter present at the day was free with his advice and one rider was advised to drop the rear down to 28psi. I thought that was rather low. So I checked mine immediately after finishing the session. Id set the rear at 36psi (as advised in the owners manual for fast riding). I had gone up to 43psi. I dropped it back down to 36. Slightly confused, so I rang Bridgestone yesterday for some illumination. Lovely conversation, very informative. They recommend for the fazer on the BT 023 36f and 42 r for road riding, and 33f 31r for trackdays, set cold.
  3. Drewpy/Cynic, I book the Road Bike Only trackdays, so theres no tyre warmers/race bikes etc. As long as the bike has a current MOT, its allowed on track. Thers all sorts of bikes, BMW adveture machines, aprilia tuonos, R1s, S1000rr, cbr600s, daytonas, a real good mix. and me on the fazer. What a hoot I had. Id upload a vid but the file is likely too big. I try not to take it too seriously, but i did remove the centre stand and the pillion footpegs, and renew the brake fluid (which made a significant improvement by the way). I know its not supposed to be competetive, but youve got to try an catch the chaps in front, dont you. 7 sessions in the day, 20 minutes a session, total 2 hours 20 minutes on track. I actually refrained from the final session cos I was exhausted. i could barley lift the bike from the side stand Its just great fun
  4. Im at donny park tomorrow, road bike only trackday, weather looks good.
  5. https://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/shopimages/2017-18-Web-Catalogue.pdf I always these people for electrical stuff
  6. Was it like that when you bought it? Was it from a dealer? If it was, then take it back
  7. I had a trackday booked at Donny last month but had to cancel it due to an untimely re-occurrence of trigger finger on the left hand. Knuckle swelled up and I could no longer pull the clutch. I had previously modified the slave lever to reduce the load, which worked to a degree, but when I sat down and thought a little longer about the hand, it crossed my my that the heavy clutch/repetitive movement might actually be the cause. I did a bit of research on the ineterwebby and could go hydraulic with chinese parts for 30 to 40 quid, but some of the reviews of part quality led me to steer clear. So I took the opportunity while at the last stafford show and got a show price deal on this piece of kit Once i got the hand sorted a couple of weeks ago, i installed it on the bike, after re-instating all of the original levers etc. Hardest part was threading the slave cylinder through the frame as it really tight in there. Clutch pull is now a one finger job, its so light and smooth and has transformed the operation. Re-booked at donny on the 14th June
  8. I like that apart from the wheels
  9. You could try here, 3y8 https://www.cmsnl.com/yamaha-sr250-1980-3y8-europe-203y8-351f1_model37952/partslist/
  10. You need to check that the thread is not stripped. If you can post a photo of the offending item, we may be able to advise a solution to the coming undone
  11. One heck of a machine for a first bike
  12. If its got a centre stand, get a mate to push down on the back end so that the front wheel is off the deck, then try turning the bars. Should turn free without any knotching or clicking
  13. Ring the garage up, tell them whats happened and tell them to pick the bike up for repair
  14. How tempting to quickly stick it into reverse, break a leg for him, then drive off
  15. Am I the only bloke in the world never to have been "given" a bike?
  16. Interrupted scintillation. I had that once, when the future mother in law caught us at it on her sofa.
  17. could have popped off on the run, only way youll know is when you find it on the garage floor
  18. I had a not disimilar problem on my old radian a few years ago. Rigged up this led unit so that I could see what was happening while riding. Worked a treat. Took it off once I bottomed the problem, must still be in the sanctuary somewhere. Easy to wire in, bit of imagination to mount
  19. Does the bike have an alarm system? Have you added anything to the system? Check and clean all connections, and for loose connections
  20. Been thinking about for sometime now. Daresay many folks will disagree, but Im not looking to get into controversy. As a rider, I will now draw the line at ABS and fuel injection on all present and future bikes that I own. I worked for 48 years as fitter/millwright/mecahnic/technician etc across a variety of industries, and saw machinery move from principally mechanical modes of operation, to the current generation of software driven and controlled state of the art bells and whistles high performance hardware. These changes have of course, filtered through onto our motorcycles, and it is now possible to purchase a machine with differing levels of launch control/traction control/riding modes/ cornering sensors/inertial measurement units etc etc etc. I have no great confidence in the hardware or software used on such systems, and I base that upon my working life experience, havin seen and worked on machines utilising such systems, and the problems that can arise/develop. Guy Martin didnt actually state it in his book, but hinted at a confilct of control between rider and control systems. John Mcguinness may be another example of such an event as honda state that no faults have yet be found to cause the fuelling not to shut off. My daughters partner was chucked off his brand new all bells and whistles machine, and did not survive. No faults found. A mate went for his brakes coming off the M1, only for the abs light to come on, and his brakes to disappear. Again, no faults found. It may be that many of you can relate of similar instances. Or perhaps im a luddite There, I knew it wouldnt come out sounding like it has it my head this last year or so, but I guess you all get my drift
  21. I think £75 per hour plus vat is the going rate for most maindealers across the uk, possibly a little higher in the Smoke. Dont think they are rerally interested in repairing older bikes, just want to sell new ones on pcp deals, and then service them
