  1. Well fair point I don't know if I can do that yet. But taking parts out of one casing and putting them into another identical case in the correct order seems, on paper at least a little easier than buying an engine that was never meant to fit where I want to put it, Measuring and accurately lining up, cutting bits here, Welding bits there and having spacers and suchlike made up to make it fit.
  2. I'm open to that too but with a second hand engine of that age I'm still looking at pulling it apart and overhauling it before I can use it. At least with the one I've got I know the internal bits are good. Any ideas which other engines will bolt straight in? I'm not a good enough engineer to start faffing about making things fit that weren't meant to originally
  3. I had a bit of an incident where my chain on my 95 FZR600R snapped and it turns out it's done some fairly terminal damage to my crankcase. Does anyone know what other bikes use the same engine cases. I'm fairly sure the thundercat does but are there any others? I'm thinking along the lines of either an older FZR or maybe a fazer 600 but want to be sure before I flash the cash. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer
  4. Having faceplanted the tarmac in a low speed spill (25 - 30mph) many moons ago, and seen the dent it put into the chin piece of my full face lid, I would not entertain or recommend anything other than a full face helmet. Were it not for that strip of plastic I would have had no teeth and a severely mangled jaw. Just my opinion talking from painful, but not as bad as it could have been, experience. Edit. That'll show me for commenting before Ive read to the end of the thread wont it? Hope the new lid never gets put to the test.
  5. A quick update to this in case anyone else is having the same trouble I was finding these caliper joint seals. The only place I could find that sells them is a company called Powerhouse who are brake specialists and trade on Ebay. I ordered 4 at about £3 each and they arrived a couple of days later. They do them in a few sizes so you should be able to get what you need from them. Hope that info could help someone in the same boat as I was in.
  6. Thanks guys you've been a great help.
  7. Thats fantastic help lads thank you. Like I said Ive pulled everything apart. Cleaned the bores and everything with brake cleaner (If that counts as a solvent then hopefully it wont matter as Im changing all the seals anyway) and blown thru with an airline so that everything is looking shiney and new. The new piston seals came today. The silicone G40 grease you refer to. Is that the red rubber grease? If so should I apply that to the piston seals as well as the o rings? Ive read that some people smear them in fresh brake fluid instead so Im a little unsure which method to use. Thanks again for all the help so far.
  8. Im doing a full overhaul on the front brakes of my '95 Foxeye, during which Ive split the calipers. Does anyone know where I can get replacements for the small 'o' rings that seal the 2 caliper halves? Ive looked everywhere I can think of online but come up with nothing. I really dont want to put the old o rings back in as they are likely to be as old as the bike and I wouldnt trust them. They are the original 4 pot Sumitomo calipers if that helps. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

Oooh thats got me thinking. 1996 - Yamaha BW-50 Or B-whizz as it was known. 1997 - Kawasaki AR80. - Written off 1998 - Kawasaki AR125 - Written off 2000 - Honda NC30 - Stolen 2004 - Suzuki GSX-R 400. Sold having never seen the light of day. Never got to see how good it was. 2006 - Yamaha FZR600R - In the garage as we speak enjoying a thorough strip down and tart up. Thats about it.
  10. Im hopefully going to start work soon bringing my old FZR600R back to its former glory or even a little better. Looking at the YZF 750 the two bikes look very similar. I was wondering how interchangable parts between the bikes may be. Specifically I was eyeing up the USD forks on the YZF and wondering if they would go on the FZR without too much hassle. Does anyone have any experience doing such a swap? Obviously Im aware that just because the fairings on two bikes are similar, its not a gaurantee that everything is swappable underneath. I just thought Id ask here before sourcing a set only to find they are nightmarish/impossible to fit. Thanks for any help anyone can offer
  11. I think I asked this a while ago. The R6 shock doesnt go in as a straight swap. I think you have to get different 'dog bones' (look at the shock linkage you will see the parts I mean) In the end I swapped my FZR shock for a Thundercat one (About £40 on Fleabay) . Its more adjustable than the standard FZR one and most importantly slips straight in with no messing about needed. You just have to be careful where you mount the remote reservoir thing so it doesnt foul on the hugger. Hope thats some use to you Mick
  12. Best quote I had was £84 TPFT from Tesco on my '95 Foxeye. 1 year no claims but Ive had my license over 10 years. Plus I think being the owner of 1 car. a named driver on another, and about to turn 29 years old helps a lot too.
  13. Had a bit of a water leak a week or two ago. No bother, an easy fix, just had to replace a hose clip and all was well. I noticed tho that the water that leaked out was a distinctly rusty colour. Now, Ive never changed the coolant since I had the bike (bad of me I know) But when we used to do that on cars and trucks at the garage I worked at many moons ago. We always used to put some Rad-flush thru the system before we dropped the water to wash out any muck and rubbish. Can you use the same stuff on bike engines? With them being a little more fragile than the big old lorries I used to work on I wasnt sure. Also, when filling the coolant back up, is the premixed stuff ok to use or do you still have to do it the old fashioned way and faff around getting the water / anti-freeze ratios correct? Its on a '95 FZR600R just for info Cheers to the knowledgable people out there
  14. Right got ya. So a damn good thrashing to get the oil up to temp for a while and all should be well. Thanks for your help mate. You're a good man Regards Mick
