that is good news indeed. congrats! my suggestion for a first thing to tackle is to add a layer of duct tape onto the seat. that will last until you can get it fixed proper, and you wont get off from test rides with foam fluffy all over your bum. if you need the air cleaner cover for the kickstart side, let me know. as mine was missing one when i bought it too. since i work at a place that can do fiberglass, I made my own. still have the mold. i could pop out a blank one for you that you can make a mount for. I cut a slit in the cover where the bottom screw would go and put a metal tab into the frame where the screw seats so that the tab slides into the slit in the cover.

i have a 74 dt175 i have a copy of the service manual for yours. it covers 71-73 lt2, lt3, at13, at2, at3, ct2, and ct3. i got it from yamagod. i use it, because most things are similar. you can pm them and ask. you will get a link. i just printed mine out. the gap is .023 inches. and its a B-8ES plug.

start by stripping and cleaning your carb. clean all the jets. check the float height while yer in there and then check and clean the air filter.

i believe that the existing road legal 2 strokers would grandfather out, just like older cars without smog equip. although its possible that you could get pulled by a cop if its really smoking bad. until they see that its a 2 stroke. even older cars in america that are smog exempt still will get a fixit ticket if they are smoking like the car in uncle buck.

ok, on my old 74 dt175 heres how the lighting circuit works. the power goes thru the headlamp, then the headlamp earths thru the pilot bulb on the speedo case. and the speedo case is earthed via the speedo cable. sounds strange i know, but my headlamp will not light if the pilot bulb had a bad connection. check that. so, if i have a burned out headlamp, my pilot bulb wont light. if i have a bad pilot light earthing point on the spedo case, the headlight wont work. im gonna side with cynic. check your headlamp. then wiggle the rubber boot that holds in the pilot bulb to the speedo. go from there. try un plugging the bulb, and using bits of wire swap around the low/high beam filiament leads. that way you can switch back into low beam and the high beam will light. if things work like that you know for sure its the bulb. especially if you switch to high and everything goes off.
