  1. Hello.... I'm restoring an '83 Y plate DT125LC Mk 1 - 10V model It came to me as a rolling chassis and bit by bit I've 95% of the bits together to start the build. Body work is all there minus a few small brackets etc... Exhaust, swinging... fork tubes will need to be either rechromed or replaced with NOS items. I could not source a 10V DT125LC engine for love nor money, but did manage to get the 12W RD125LC engine, which has dropped straight in. I'm not a purist... it will be my bike to keep so I can live with the fact that its not got matching engine and frame numbers (a lot of the 125's we ran as teenagers ended up with engine swaps when we blew them up) AND that its an 'RD' NOT a 'DT' engine. I believe that the Mk1 DT had a 6 Volt electrical system BUT the RD had a 12 Volt system. I've sourced an RD loom so it should fit back together OK. Assuming that I just change the 6V bulbs for 12V is there anyting else I need to change? RD CDI, RD rectifyer? obviously 12V battery etc.. Would appreciate any responses. Cheers
  2. Thanks. My contact in Germany thought that the EU CDI was enough... Back to the drawing board. I have 2; 1 to sell & 1 to keep. I've passed my test to I have no problem derestricting it. I've got a new Gianelli for mine. I'm hoping to get the YPVS working on the one I keep. I've seen big bore kits for the TZR but I'm told that the best mod is getting the valve working. Cheers
  3. Hello, I am looking for some guidance with my current project bike. I am restoring an '89 G TZR125 2RK. I would like to have a working powervalve. I have the pulleys, casing, cover, cables and servo. I have since sourced a CDI from a German / Swiss bike which had a working valve. I keep seeing mails about the powervalve controller; is this a seperate piece of kit or is it incorporated into the EU spec CDI? My contact in Germany has also offered me a different carburettor assuming that the EU spec had a larger carb? Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks & Kind Regards
  4. Learnt something new today! I've collected a few DT's which are in varying states of restoration.. queued up in the warehouse at work. I own a 1986/C DT125LC Mk 2.. I've the same colour scheme as you BUT mine has the drum front brake which denotes its a Mk 2 BUT the same rear end as your Mk 3.... Yamaha knew how to make things complicated... Cheers & good look with the project. Looks like lots of tins of WD to me!
  5. Hello, I am gathering parts to restore a TZR125 2RK. I currently have 90 % of the parts needed (the previous owner has started to build the bike). Not sure whether its just because the tyres could do with more air in them, but it seems to sit quite low at the rear. I like my bikes to be a bit higher at the rear; Ideally I'd like it sit 2 or 3 inches higher. Has anyone changed the rear shock on this model to raise the tail. Is there a shock from another model that goes straight in ? I've a spare swinging arm and a contact at a local engineering company who could probably weld in another mount to make the rear sit higher but I didn't want to resort to such drastic measures if it can be done easier. Any replies would be appreciated. Cheers
  6. Thanks... That foxes me somewhat.. I'm sure that an '82 RD had the 'square' type clocks and a tachometer. I'm miles away from rebuilding the bike anyway but I can't understand why the casing is blanked off and it looks like it left the factory this way. I might see if the blank comes out and what's underneath it. Many thanks for your response. Cheers Bill Steadman
  7. Did you get it to run? Just out of interest, where did you get the Athena 170 cc kit? I'm guessing it was on line? Was it expensive? Cheers
  8. Would appreciate someone's input please... I am in the process of building a Mk I DT125LC on a 'Y' 83 plate. I bought a rolling chassis ex EBAY and sourced an engine etc.. I could not get a DT engine, but managed to pick up an engine number 12A004*** which was identified as an RD 125 LC engine. Just been to check my parts pile and I just happened to notice that the aperture in the crankcase is blanked off. (looks like it left the factory this way) I know that the DT Mk I did not have a tacho, BUT I did own an '83 RD which did have a tacho... I'm more than confused! The clutch cover does not have the telephone dial type casting. Its a plain casting, which makes me think that my engine is 84 onwards... is a 12A definitely an RD engine? I'm now concerned that loom, CDI etc that bought for what I thought was a 12V RD engine will now be surplus to requirements!!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you
  9. I'm in the process of gathering parts for a Mk I DT125LC which I believe is a 1983 model. Does anyone know where I can find a parts manual on line. I have most parts with the exception of the rear mudguard which is specific to the Mk I Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Bill Steadman
  10. I run a '93 FZR600 3EN model. I have been considering swapping the rear wheel for some time for a 17 inch wheel, to take advantage of a better range of tyres. I know that the rear wheel from a TZR250 will fit (forget the model) & also from a TDM I believe although they're now quite rare & hard to find. I saw at the weekend that the FZR1000 EXUP was fitted with a 17 inch wheel... Does anyone know whether this would be a straight swap or am I barking up the wrong tree? Thanks
  11. I run a '93 FZR 600 which the EN model. I didn't know that the Thundercat shock fits the FZR. I guess its easier to adjust? Think I'll start looking for one... Cheers
  12. Would be grateful if anyone here can help with the following query; I am in the process of building a DT125 LC. My frame is a mk1, verified by Yamaha UK who kindly also supplied a Vehicle Registration Number & year of manufacture. I could not get a DT engine, BUT managed to pick up an RD engine which has dropped straight in, no problem. I have sourced RD electrics, loom etc as I am aware that the mk1 has 6V electrics not 12V & the RD engine will be 12V. I intend to keep the bike for myself, and to this end it will be made up of the best of the DT bits plus a few other nice custom bits. I have seen somewhere on here that the standard LC barrel can be bored out to 175 cc... or did I read this incorrectly? I thought I'd seen somewhere that this can be done & that you fit a DT175MX piston? I know that there is an italian big bore kit that appears from time to time, but the costs seem to be prohibitive @ anything from £ 300 - 400. I have no experience of the 125 big bore kits BUT I remember as a spotty youth, most of my mates that ran 50's had either 60 kits, or 80 kits & they did not last 5 mins... mainly knocking out the bottom ends.... Given that my bottom end is good, if I could bore my 125 barrel out to 175cc or fit a big bore, do I need to change the big ends & mains, or will the 125 bottom end take the extra horses that the 175 barrel produces? (I don't want ridiculous power, but would be happy with say 20-25 BHP, rather than the stock 12 BHP) If I do not go for this option, as I intend to keep the bike for myself, I considered having the barrel tuned by Stan Stephens, as I have a spare. What sort of increase in power can be achieved with a Stage 1 tune? Am I looking at 5 - 10 BHP? And with a Stage 1 tune will it affect the reliability? Any replies would be appreciated. Cheers
  13. Hello. I've been using the Garage Forum, but not had much luck. Quick question; I am sure that there used to be links to parts manuals on this forum, but I think that the links have been removed. I'm building a DT125LC enduro hybrid, using a 12W frame (Mk 1). I've picked up an engine, which has come from an RD 12A. Does anyone have a parts manual for a 12W?, or know where I can get one? I've a rolling chassis, but need to kit it out with a 2 stroke oil tank, and various other bits and wanted to avoid buying the wrong bits. I've a parts manual for the 35A but this seems to be a different beast.. (albeit cosmetically it looks pretty similar.) Any help would be greatly appreciated... Thank you
  14. Answered my own question... I have an RD125 LC mk 1 engine, 12A00**** and a DT frame. Bit of wet & dry on the headstock brought out the number which is 12W00**** which has been verified as a DT125LC mk 1 frame. The RD engine has dropped straight in no problem. Now hope that the exhaust, carb etc will all fit. I don't have these items yet, but will assume that the DT exhaust will mate up with the RD barrel & that the carb for the DT & RD is the same. Will assume that the electrics will be 12V? (I think that the mk 1 DT was 6V?) Bit of detective work now with the nice people now at Yamaha UK, and hopefully I can turn up a Reg Number. Cheers
  15. Hello... Would be grateful if someone can help me with an identification issue... I've collected a number of DT125's over the last couple of years... I started off with a DT125MX which is stripped, and in the process of being rebuilt. I bought a DT125LC Mk II about 2 years ago, which I have sourced parts for, and is next in the queue to be rebuilt. I've been hoarding spares, and over a period of time have managed to pick up a spare engine prefixed 12A & have now managed to get a cheap rolling chassis. Initially I'd planned to use them for spares, but in a drunken stupour one night, I came up with the idea of making a enduro style DT with the bits I have. I had previously been told that my engine came from an RD BUT the frame number on the spare rolling chassis is very similar to the engine number on the crank cases, although they were both sourced from seperate sources, the engine number is 12A-00405 & frame number is 12A-00377. This leads me to believe that I have in fact got a DT engine. I think that what I have is the remains of a DT125 LC Mk I which brings me to my next query... Is there anyway I can trace whether this is a 6V DT, or a 12V DT?. I have no electrics, loom, coil, rectifier, lights or anything to corroborate what I have? I've spoken with Yamaha in the past, and did not want to p*ss them off further as they've been very helpful with other projects. I note previously that there used to be parts manuals for all of the DT's on here but they've subsequently been removed... does any one have a clue? Any help would be appreciated... Thank you
