  1. as soon as i hit 17, got myself a vaux astra, mk3 1.4litres.. picked it up for £800 - not so bad! insurance TPF&T was around £900, me as a named driver, dad as policy holder (with a big NCB).. had a bit of a mishap, my fault, went up slightly, then got 3 points knocked it up to £1500 next got a suzuki x-90 - probably not the most common of tastes - but insurance was still around the same! from what i researched, the best thing to do, is actually spend a whole day shopping for quotes!! ignore them comparison ones, except for gocompare.com (if anybody has found a good comparison one, pls lemme know, as i really found them expensive, except the one i mentioned).. a small car, say under 1.4 litres to start off with, should be fine, and u can use clicky to check out the insurance groups! (just go to the "find a car by insurance group - around halfway down, towards right side) I found it very helpful.. as a rough idea, u should aim for groups 1-6ish.. 5 and 6 have half decent cars, im sure there would be something u can find cheap to buy.. im not too sure on this, but you could try to ring your motorbike insurers, and ask them if they do cars.. maybe they would understand that youve been riding, and have experience on the road.. motorcyclists are the BEST and SAFEST road users, and thats FACT.. possibly even stick on a NCB.. Best of luck mate, and leme know if u need a hand looking around for quotes etc. Hope this helps (p.s. - i was in same position as u a few years ago, i know exactly what its like - the only difference is, u ride, i just started riding )
  2. i.e. the ones that did humiliate the troops, not the rest of us who wear rags on our heads
  3. Im on a YBR125, the round headlight model.. Got a halogen lamp, MILES better than the old sh*tty one!! Other than that, full beam on all the time, unless its dark, and theres oncoming traffic.. Most of my riding is on lit up, inner city, roads, so the headlamp dimness didnt bother me much.. I reckon you should be able to get a set of universal headlamps, wired up via a relay and switch.. Was contemplating something similar too, I doubt that wed have much issues, so long as we dont get uber-brights, which drain more power than our peewee alternators would generate. uzi_999
  4. I feel that I am in a position to correct you, and I would like to point out that some, and not all, clerics feel that a 'holy war' is the solution to the issues faced by the Muslims in the modern era. Wanted to clarify that the word 'Jihad' literally means 'struggle'. It has been used in the context of a 'holy war' for a VERY long time, and so the meaning has adapted to just that. However, according to Islamic beliefs, jihad HAS certain rules which must be met - i.e. Islam DOES set out rules for war. Some to mention: women, children and the elderly must NOT be harmed, livestock must NOT be harmed, etc. Now that's a new one, ure thinking.. Well, its there, in the Islamic books, its not nonsense.. In our holy book, the Quran, it DOES mention of people who have been made 'shaheed', i.e. who have died during jihad, and how they are guaranteed paradise/heaven. BUT that again is taken out of context and misinterpreted by a select few! A suicide bomber in no way whatsoever is shaheed! Nor are the ignorant f*ckers who were behind 7/7 or 9/11!! WHY? because they are not taking part in jihad! what they are doing is pure ignorance and human genocide!! Nowhere does islam teach that! Islam does not teach terrorism and killing innocent civillians. According to the true Islam, Jihad has rules and regulations. It is obvious that these are not being followed in any way. I totally agree with the way of dealing with this silly c*nt! If he holds that viewpoint, clearly he is not showing the true face of Islam! All people who hold a view like that SHOULD be dealt like that!! Please dont let the few twats amongst the Muslim community fill your minds with a negative image of Muslims. I see you seem to have mentioned "Muslims' beliefs" but would like to point out, that I'm a Muslim, BUT I in no way think that 7/7 or 9/11 were justified! Nor do I feel that I should go around killing all non-believers!! It's either that the normal (peaceful) Muslims (the majority) are not Muslims, or, the extremists (the minority) are judged, and the whole of Islam is now seen as they portray it, and the (normal) Muslims seem to cease to exist, or just magically turn into terrorists! Its the few who portray this image.. Muslims (normal type - this is getting silly now - normal type and abnormal type ) do not condone or pardon terrorism, we however condemn it. Its the few extremists who seem to think that this will solve everything.. Im sorry, but I had to get it off me chest "All it takes for the bad to prosper, is the good to sit n do nothing"
  5. Incase your still interested ; Im assuming you still have the handbook, in there it has instructions on how to remove the side panels, panels A and B, i think they were called in the book (the panel that has the battery underneath, and the one on the opposite side).. This is fairly straightforward anyway, the left side one needs the key,and the right, a screwdriver.. Once these are removed, theres two bolts, one on either side, that attach the seat onto the bike, open them up, and try not to lose them (like i tend to do! ), and voila!!
  6. Hi, Not too sure about the detectors, but a quick search on good old google should do it From what I remember, the average speed cameras face our front, i.e. theyre infront of the drivers/riders.. Now how many motorcyclists have a numberplate on the front So i think we can get away with that one, (dont try it, till ure sure tho), but if that is the case, that they can only see the front of us, theyve got no chance!!
  7. Hi there, Ive got a YBR125 too, and through my many journeys, I found a shop selling the humpback.. I was impressed, and so bought one for a friend (who owns a honda nsr125).. Tried it on my bike, and a PERFECT fit.. bought myself one the next day!! The only thing is, the velcro strap should be secured under the seat, and so ull need to remove the seat to attach.. Not much an issue.. Ive got the bungees for it on the grab rails, either side, and the rear ones run behind the number plate. Ill post up pictures later on tonight if youre still interested.. Theyre useful little bags, as u can use them as a rucksak. They can fit a FULL FACE helmet, when expanded!! but then no space for anything else.. Theyre good quality, and if secured down properly, wouldnt move around and so, but may be a bit wobbly if expanded (doesnt bother me much, as i only expand it when i really need to) Let me know if you need the pictures posting up. Another useful thing is the tail pack base.. Built in mini-cargo net, and a small pocket (can fit a disk-lock), if you dont need the capacity of a bag, but want to carry a disk lock or something small.. Overall, i would rate it 9/10, its such good quality!! Never used a top box, i find them too ugly, and bulky.. and im assuming the wieght on the far end on the back would make a difference to the way it handles.. The humpback, i feel, is more versatile. i.e. use it expanded, contracted, or none at all, but u have the mini net and the small pocket!! plus what i do is, park the bike in the shed/garage thingy, and put my gloves, hi vis and my keys straight into it, all ready for the next ride!! hope this helps If youre in/around london, I could show you sometime
  8. Been riding for a while now, probably around 6 months!! Down here in London, strangely , people nod back at me, even tho i wear a proper hi-vis, the type that make normal ones look dull, and L-plates.. Some of them, utter twats, never nod back, and never move over an inch, that inch u really need before the transit beside u crushes u into the island!! Personally, I think that the instructers should teach riders to nod at each other, and look out for each other... Somehow, keeps springing to mind!! As a general rule, them riders who ride cos they HAVE to, are the ones who are miserable, and dont wave/nod back!! The show-off type also get to me, cos thier reply to my hi-vis n L-plate nod is something along the lines of Absolutely HATE them ones , but dont let them drag the community down!! One for all, all for one, another rider broken down, deserves help.. and everyone deserves a nod!! they dont give one back, oh well, feck them!! Usman
  9. Drivers fault, without a shadow of a doubt!!! Clearly the driver feels that all three lanes belong to him/her, and that he/she can swerve as they please!! One lane at a time, flipping ar$eHole!! A taxi driver tried something similar with me today. At next set of lights, I got the pleasure to readjust his wing mirror for him, free of charge!! He tried following me too!! haha, but you can imagine, 8.50AM, London!!
  10. well, not many local traffic bods here stick around! its like, they around one day, and u dont see them again.. I spent a while up in nuneaton (down, for u lot even further up ) and there police officers were local, i.e. you could get to know them and u would see them every so often, but here in london, i dont think ive ever had to deal with the same police officer twice!! AAMOF, i never thought of it that way!! ermm, 20 now, had a vauxhall astra mk3 as a first (5-ish months after i turned 17), that lasted a year, then i got a suzuki x-90!! n i know, ppl hate it, but then some love it.. i fell in love at first sight!! got bored of that, and contemplated.. contemplated real hard!!! and got a YBR125!! biker now, and aint ever looking back!! NOTE TO SELF:
  11. Would like to apologise, an open apology to all, if my previous message was slightly negative I sort of skim read it all , and wanted to post up a reply in the heat of the moment.. I totally agree with that!! Also would like to point out the fact that if they were members of any other religion, and in a Muslim country, i.e. Muslim laws in place; imagine what the authorities would put them thru if they had treated that country's troops in a smililar manner!!! Also would like to share my point on this! The police, WHY THE F*** didnt they take any action??!! This is just an utter pisstake, as it's these induviduals who hate the country and treat the servicemen/servicewomen like crap, then what will they move on to next?? It's these individuals who NEED a lesson taught!! If they can do this in the open, with police around them, imagine what they may be doing behind closed doors! If it were up to me, I'd have all the Mulsims in the UK to unite, and elimiate these extremists, who I believe are not worth the title Muslim.. Not sure if anybody has come across this, but the the Word Muslim, is derived from "Islam" literally meaning "Peace".. Where the hell is the "peace" part of it gone with these kn*bs??!! The Police should trace these people down, and the leader of the group, and follow thier EVERY single step!! Now that what I call fair policing!! Somebody acts like a twat, they should be dealt with!! Slightly off topic, but in my two years of driving cars, i have been stopped 13 times by police, just for the routine check.. People tell me to make a complaint! "Its cos ure asain!!" "Its cos ure a muslim!" "Its cos of the beard!!" Ive heard them all! Do I want to complain? Did I even feel offended that they stopped me? Do i blame them for stopping me?? Simply, NO! because I dont blame the police for doing their job, policing.. We normal Muslims take the grunt for the minority of them dicks out there!!
  12. HAHAHA studying multimedia and internet systems enginnering, my networks and web prog teacher's always on about how the web can be used for many things, and utilised with GPS and the GSM network, it IS actually possible to track somebody down!! How often have u called AA or RAC and thought, how on earth do they know where I am?? I was curious to how ths works, til i clicked on the link!!!
  13. Right, just to add my two pence... I feel that the way this topic has grown, and the way its headed is slightly unfair.. Personally, I'm a Muslim.. I have friends who are Christian, Hindu and Sikh, and many many other religions.. I DISAGREE with the scumbags that deserve to be wiped off the face of the earth, yes, those who u lot were mentioning about. they are wrong, and are nothing short of backwards-single-minded b*stards!! There are people out there, fighting, risking thier lives, for freedom and justice, and to get rid of ignorance and to pursue a decent world!! These brave young servicemen and servicewomen, deserve a warm welcome, not some silly tw*ts who claim to be Muslim, humiliating them and taking the piss. However, I feel that the way some people have talked about "Muslims" in this thread, is slightly unacceptable.. Sorry, I'm not picking a fight with anybody, nor would I like to, but just would like to say that these tw*ts you see and hear about on the news, are not the people the Mulsim population in general would like to relate to.. These idiots, do not follow what Islam teaches, having studied my religion for a very long time, I can say this is as a matter of fact, AGAINST prophetic traditions!! These b*stards have nothing better to do, and unfortunately all Muslims are held resposnsible!! I actually don't blame y'all for saying what u said, because I'd say the same thing if I was in your position.. The only people to blame are the small minority, who seem to think that they can disrupt our lives!!! Hope this message doesn't offend, I have tried to be as honest as possible, and wanted to get my point across to you all.. Please feel free to comment, but please do not offend Muslims as a whole. I know, some are twats, and do not deserve to be called human, but I assure you, not all of us are like that. Im sure that many of you have come across Muslims in your day-to-day lives, do they seem like utter d*ckheads?? Doesn't that show how it's just some who wreck it for all. thanks

    wot a nob

(nothing) *no words can describe this IDIOT!! its because of him, the careful and sensible are stereotyped!!
  15. i really think that this advert should be part of some campaign! ive written an article, and would like us to start some sort of campaign for road users, making them more aware of bikers.. thing is, we need somewhere to start.. if possible, can i post up a copy of the article for people to read, and help.. thanks
  16. hi there, havent got an r125, but thought id let u know that the link doesnt work, i had to manually copy n paste the item number "190283985716".. it says the page isnt responding
  17. what exactly was wrong with them?
  18. thanks for that mate im MOT free for another two years (07 plate ), but ill wire them up anyhow, without mounting them, and just count if its under 120 flashes/min
  19. thanks for the quick response people drewpy, 10w is from the handbook, the proper yamaha one - clicky clicky for a link for the same thing - but as a pdf.. to the end (page 8-2 and 8-3) id like to go LED, but really not too keen on spending too much .. if they somehow manage to blink faster, i may need to get some sort of controller - then it'ld be time to go for LED's
  20. Now, that is a good one!! nice one mate

    DAS

congrats mate!! ;) contemplating whether to go down that route, or just the a2 restricted to 33bhp well, im turning 21 in may . im sure i can take the a2 restricted on my 125, and just stick to the 125 for a while, then upgrade to another bike (have it restricted - or do it myself, if its not too hard ) the advantage i see in that - can do test on my ybr125, which ive had practice on, and am confident on. plus, even if i did get the DAS after may (when im 21), i wouldnt get a big beast of a machine anyway, so im assuming the 33bhp limitation is okay-ish anyway. what u lot think?
  22. hi all, first thread here , although i have found this forum damn useful reading up about the YBR125.. anyhow, wanted to ask y'all a quick question. the factory indicators on a ybr are 10w, according to the owners manual, but aftermarket ones, by oxford, are 21w.. would that be fine, considering its only a 11w increase, and bearing in mind that indicators aren't constantly on. also the wiring on the harness seems like it can handle it. any opinions? (btw, im changing to these, because ive got a set of spotlamps, and couldnt find anywhere to mount 'em - but the normal indicator positions - as a temporary fix, the indi's are cleverly mounted on using sellotape ) will post up pictures if anybody wants any ideas/inspirations (when bike gets back from mechanic) ...

    Lights

not quite sure, but im sure that its a single bulb, with two filaments, one for dipped beam, and one for full beam.. my ybr is with mechanic, so really cant say, but id assume you connect both connectors (the dipped and full beam) together; i.e. bulb should have 3 connections: ground -ve, full beam +ve, and dipped beam +ve. connecting both +ve's together, would have them both on ALL the time, but not switchable between full and dipped. however, if youre feeling a bit more braver, rewire the switch, cant really say off top of my head, but let me know it you still want this, ill jot up a wiring diagram, which you could attemp, or show to an electritian. hope this helps **EDIT - just noticed, you have a YZF - sorry, but might have been a bit more obvious if you had said what bike it is in message.. still should be the same tho, SO LONG AS its one bulb, with two filaments. p.s. i take no responsibily whatsoever for damages, but what i said is right theoretically..
