Looks very much like an XJ600 to me, it's not a SRX, they have a box section type frame, not a round one. This looks like a XJ600, but if it's a 400 I'd say XJ400

The steering lock is likely to be a worn key or barrel. I'd recommend a bit of wiggle As for the leak, this could be a number of things, best bet is to clean everything up to remove old oil, then run it and tract the oil back up.

Joe, I've only just seen this, but in response to your original question, I'd recommend a thunderace. 1000cc, 145hp, shed loads of torque (more that an RSV mille) and dirt cheap (you could buy an entire bike for about a grand and strip off the parts you dont need to sell)

Yeah, they're all the same. I think you can also fit a thundercat tank, but you need the external fule pump (don't hold me to that though)

I wired a 12V car charge point into my bike a few years ago and it set my alarm off while I was riding along when I plugged anything into it (it was a pont alarm). I didn't realise till my mates flagged me down because all my indicators were flashing, most amusing

Hi Gazza, I just saw this thread, if what you mean by no bite is having a front brake that has absolutoely no resistance or braking for the first half lever travel, then the brakes come on with plenty of stopping power then this is the same for every standard one I've ridden. I've heard the blue spots is the best upgrade, however you do need to change the master cylinder too. I'm going to be making a new rear caliper hanger this week so that a blue spot rear will bolt straight onto the YZF 750 (will probably need a new torsion bar). Not sure about problems etc as I've not done it, but you will definitely need the wiring loom (for the CDI), the carbs and probably the radiator from the 600 If you're gonna do it, start a thread with plenty of pics

I'm thinking about making an exhaust hanger to replace the rear footpegs and tidy up the back end, I'll get a profile laser cut and bend it, similar to this one below, if a few other people are after one I can get them done in a batch and make them cheaper than these. If it's just me I'll mill a profile myself and make a one off as it'll be cheaper. If I had a million axis CNC mill I would make a set fo them, just to leave them on the side and look at everyday I do keep thinking about getting a large bore pipe bender, but for the amount of use I'd get ot of it, it's just not worth the money.

Aren't the old six pots a bit too manly for the discs and tend to warp them from such heavy braking?

Not sure about alternatives, but you coud send it off to Brookes suspension for a service and revalve/respring. I think a service is about £100 not sure about costs to set up and revalve.

Does the chassis number not tell you the model? 4jh, 3tj, 3he etc.
