  1. Hi all,

I have been browsing the forums for a while now but never really done anything about registering. Anyway, hopefully no one minds my first post being a hello and a HELP!!!! at the same time :P

I purchased a lovely 2003 R6 with ~5000miles about 2 months ago. This is my first motorcycle and as for riding goes I won't say I am overly confident but do think I can handle the bike fine, but yes still getting used to it.

When I took it from the dealer I just could not fault it. It rides brilliantly but present day I seem to think something is up with the gearbox. I have spoken to the dealer and will be going to see them but thought maybe with all the Yamaha brains here someone could shed some light.

When cold changing from 1st to 2nd gear it tends to slam into gear. I can feel it through the bike. It does this for a while and only once the R6 has reached optimal temperture does it tend to go away.

Coming from a dealer all the service bits were done before I took ownership but just in case I checked things like Oil, Chain slack and Tyre pressure. I do occasionally give it the beans to keep it in tip top shape but am worried that my gearbox is one day going to fall out :(

As far as warning lights go.... There are none. The bikes computer says everything is ok.

NOROX hi welcome 2 the club ive got xj1300 08 and mine did the same thing i changed the iol to a semi synthtic one has

    inproved it good luck

  2. The Bike: 1989 DT200 (2 stroke dual sport). Liquid cooled, kick start, basically a liquid cooled Blaster 200 engine with a powervlave.

The Issue: Doesn’t run, just sputters, backfires and dies.

History: Was running mint. Non-starting issue was an intermittent problem, but it hasn’t been running for about 2 months now, so I think the problem’s here to stay. It will start up first kick, sputter for an exciting 5 seconds, backfire and die. Engine is non-responsive while it's doing it's 5 second sputtering routine.

    What I’ve Checked/Done:

    Compression: Running about 200psi.

Spark: Plenty of spark at the plug when I kick it over. Spark will jump a 7mm gap. Nice blue spark. New Spark plug.

Fuel: Rebuilt carb with stock jetting. New 94 octane gas. New Reeds.

Air: Cleaned air filter. No air leaks, no exhaust restrictions in pipe.

Power Value: clean powervalve and servo works perfectly.

Electrical: New and fully charged battery. Neutral and Side stand switches working.

Other: Thrown numerous wrenches across the floor. Surprisingly didn't fix the problem. Praying hasn't helped either.

    Theories:

    1. Bad CDI. Is there any way to check this?

    2. Bad Coil/Stator: Maybe providing spark during starting, but nothing once running. Is there a way to check this?

    3. The bike hates me.

My guess is electrical but I’ve cleaned, and tested more switches and connectors that I would like to admit to. Are there any other places I can look to diagnose? What would experts like yourselves try next?

    Thanks for reading!!

it can b a simple thing empty the tank fill with fresh 2strock some 1 mite have played with it try it u mite b surprised good luck
  3. i passed my theory today and now i got to think about the practical...

basicaly now the way i ride is that i only overtake cars in slow trafic on the left side...... but normally in traffic lights e.t.c i always wait behind other cars, as is i was another car......

i was wondering when i go to the practical exam do i have to ride and when appoching trafic lights e.t.c do i over take cars to the front of the queue or do i just wait behind other cars as is i was another car????

any other tips... im gonna be doing the exam on my 52 plate Yamaha DT125R..... and firstly i need to gain more confidence on the road as i used to offroad terrain and no speedlimits...

any top tips????? for passing the exam.......

what manuvers do they ask me to do??? do they have that show me tell me ?? that they do for cars????

if you dont filter thay will tell u get a car if there are more than 8car at the lights and you have room the filter through st just behind the first car your instuctor should tell u all this if he does not then hes no good but do ask best of luck to u
