  1. The fuel in the oil would be my main concern... And water in the two stroke tank... If you're missing any bits I know a guy down in Swansea that most likely has them, could be an idea to drop in another loom if the wiring is that bad
  2. As above, resistance testing coils is the way to go, don't have the exact figures to hand but they should be in your workshop manual
  3. Omfg yes! I'm game!!. Someone take the XT, I've got a tow rope somewhere and some RSJ.
  4. Got some new chunkier rubber on there now, handles much better across the rough stuff!. Needs a front mudguard though ...not much fun picking cow shit out your teeth... Also, it just about fits in the back of my Delica... So when it breaks down I can ride the Chappy to the nearest civilisation to get help...
  5. Been using it to get around on site this week, had a little bit of a clean and there's a few wiring issues to sort out on account of the new ignition barrel not being exactly the same layout as the old one...
  6. Well here it is so far!. Once again massive thanks to Sacha for sorting out the logistics. Runs quite nice, throttle cable is sticking where it runs into the splitter for the oil pump though... Which resulted in an unplanned trip through a hedge row... And the front brake shoes fell to pieces when I put the hub in... Luckily they are the same as the DT50 ones!
  7. Well now you have the space why not buy another one?...
  8. If push comes to shove you can drop a known running short block in there and you have a running bike, everything else is multiplugs and tinkering. You still paid less than I did for my first DT50 so you're definitely onto a winner Defo put up some progress posts though, love to see these little bikes getting worked, so simple to work on.
  9. You either grow with it or against it, and I never want to see another f*c king helicopter as long as I live I link to ebay on most of those groups as it keeps the wankers away "hi m8 Wud u swop 4 an iPhone?" or "Wud u take £20 for it delivered?".
  10. I know that feeling, counting down the days until I'm a civilian again now
  11. Can confirm the pug/mh are 'real bikes', similar in appearance to the Aprilia RS50. Nice enough bikes, easy enough to work on, parts are cheap and plentiful. I paid £50 for a rolling Motorhispania with 204 kilometers on the clock, never even had an MOT in its life. Top end was gone when it went into a dealer and they ended up cutting their losses. I flipped it as it was due to space limitations. If I come across anything I'll drop you a message.
  12. Peugeot XR6 is worth a look, or the Motorhispania RX50 (same bike different badge). Both mineralli engines, I had one not long ago that I flipped, can pick them up cheap
  13. If you're on Facebook try joining a few for sale groups, a lot of people (myself included) prefer it over ebay/Gumtree for selling things on cheap and quick without having to pay for listing fees.
  14. Yeah the ones circled are the ones to be shortened, the cab shouldn't make a difference, it's the black ring inside that does the majority of the sealing. Didn't notice at first that much material was missing off the sealing ring, can't think of where you might find another one, if you have a friend handy with a lathe you may be able to spin up a PTFE or Nylon sleeve to fit in place of it
  15. Good choice of bike to start with, and even better for £50!, I've paid more for absolute wrecks and used them as donor bikes. Re the parts, as mentioned try fowlers, or wemoto/yambits, second hand parts from European eBay are also a handy source. As for the sealing ring you should be able to tidy up the edges and reuse it it, the intake manifold is around an inch long so it wouldn't hurt to lose a few mm, definitely remove those little tabs on the inside of the clamp though, otherwise they pinch when torqued (like yours have started to bend) and snap the clamp, ideally cut them down with a hacksaw or dremel. If you get stuck I have another used TK carb up for sale.
  16. For that price I'd atleast want it to have an original rear light rather than a £10 universal scab
  17. Does it say in the ad if the light CE marked?
  18. Ah right, all this talk of 125s has confuzzled me... There was a 50cc chappy on evilbay recently... They can be fun
  19. What about one of them things Grouch had? The XT125-something (X or possibly R... I didn't have it long enough to really pay attention)... I'm a 5'7 shortass by comparison and I couldn't quite get both feet on the floor... Just don't buy that same one i had... Fixed one problem and created another, feckin thing.
  20. it does appear to share a fair few parts with the smaller yams of the era, im just excied to have a new toy to play around with and keep my bike no claims current!. havent really touched the XTs since i last posted, we fixed the decompression lever on my 350 and had a bitof a ride along the farmland where our unit is, the 600 isnt in quite as good condition as the 350 so i think the 350s are going to be the first to get MOTd, wont be until the new year though. Got a Suzuki SV650 taking up space in the garage aswell which i never really wanted, so that can go on eBay in the new year, it's looking more and more likely that im going back to Afghan to work as a contractor, so starting to downsize the fleet a little; get rid of the 4x4s, boats and bikes etc, so only a select few will be staying and going into a rented lockup (XZ550, the DTs, Chappy and my smallest 4x4)
  21. So the electrics are all working which is a good start, new ignition switch and battery ready to go, Got myself a little chrome headlight for it, opted to buy another used set of forks rather than rebuild the existing legs which were missing parts. All being good when these new forks arrive I can start using it to get around the airfield in Jan!
  22. Thanks Dutch, I think I'm sorted now thanks to our wonderful Sacha, handy to know for the future though
  23. Sorry for the delay peeps, haven't managed to find it... I've got two DT manuals here somewhere but searched high and low and haven't found them iirc the cdi system will run with minimal wiring, red to ign switch, black to earth and blue to low tension and orange to trigger...
  24. Seasons greetings, peeps! Was wandering there was some 'murican friendos out there who could help me with shipping... Been on the US Ebay and found a set of fork legs which I need to get my new chappy up and running, but the guy won't ship internationally :(, was wondering if there was anyone out there who could act as an intermediate and take delivery of these forks and forward them on to me?. I'm out in Arizona for a final piss up next year before I leave the services, but kinda want to get it done before then. Beer tokens will be awarded ofc!
  25. Yeah that's the one... twin carb and dual chamber exhaust, goes well enough but needs some better rubber, not sure wether to keep the 350 or the 600 yet...both have their own charm
