correct pete that was all the change in the law was,16 year olds were no longer able to ride a motorbike regardless of cc they were only able to ride mopeds. thank god i was 16 in 1962 and missed all this namby pamby nonsense, helmetless till 1973 seems madness now

  9. jesus mike you have had a lucky escape, your son needs to hold on to something at least the grab rail if he is to embarrassed to hold on to an old man. i would try and find out why he fainted blood sugar to low ? i lost a girlfriend off the back of my bike years ago for not holding on shits you up and 30 years on dont like pillion passengers. do you think you should still be riding at your age.
  10. first dan there is no catch,in the days when me and you started riding you could ride a 250 on l plates now its 125 so it sits in a funny market place its no use to learner riders and once they have passed there test even though they might be restricted to 33bhp most prefer something bigger but for someone like you who wants it as a commuter its ideal good on fuel but with still enough power to stay with the traffic on the road. its not retrictedm its sometimes called the fazer 250 a lot are sold in other parts of the world but not really an import its just not caught on to any degree vhere spares should not be a problem/
  11. well bugger me another triumph owner, theres a few like us on here dan oldies from the 60s passed my test in 62 and have a similar background as you as far as british bikes are concerned kept my bonnie till 2005,bought my first yamaha in the seventies but still had triumphs as well. welcome

    About time

having just got home after coming down the M1 and M6 most drivers already do 80mph and more. sadly i am old enough to remember when the motorways were built there was no speed limit the biggest problem was most of the cars couldnt do 80,but was great to try and get the ton out of my bonnie, now i get some arsehole in a merc right up my backside flashing his lights on the M1 trying to get past at well over the ton, didnt manage it as there was a prat in front held everybody up doing 60 in the outside lane for over 4 miles, before he pulled over letting every one pass. it seems unreal that the goverment only introduced the 70mph limit as an experiment in december 1965 and it was only made law in 1967.
  20. sadly unlike the fuel protest where bikers did a similar thing but mid week and not only on the motorway but in to city centres and recieved full media coverage, this one was a complete failure as it was ignored by the media and other road users were left wondering what the f**k was going on. if the eu plans did come in what happens with your 7 year old pride of joy! overnight it wont be worth a light, you cant px it nobody will want it,compensation ?not a chance, perhaps if we had taken a leaf out of the french way of protesting and brought cities to a standstil,it might have got the media coverage it deserved. sorry but for me it was a waste of time.
  21. what i should have explained is i had just before this unchained the bike from its ground anchor unchained the gate to bring the bike from round the back ready to go out , the bike nev has a alarm and a immobiliser both were off daft i know but had only gone back in the house to put my gear on just shows you even in broad daylight it only takes a momentary lapse. good job i havent got a chainsaw DDT my baseball bat was enough to get me a police caution last year.having said that it wont stop me using it again.
  22. well i am sure we have all heard the term daylight robbery! well 10 minutes ago i opened the door to go out and put my lottery on only to find a scooter parked at the bottom of my drive the guy on the pillion was just about to force my steering lock,on seeing me he jumped on the back of the scooter which had no number plate on it and away,i would have caught them but let them get away when they rode the wrong way down a one way street. on the bloody pavement. god my bike must be popular this is the forth time in 18 months. phoned the police they said theres been a few bikes stolen lately so drewps dont leave your bike on the front.
