  1. Just wondering what all the XV250 owners are getting for mileage. I got a best of just under 68 mpg, and a worst of 61 mpg. 65 is what I got on the last 3 fill ups I checked the mileage on, and seems to be the average. They were pretty much highway rides of speeds not really exceeding 70 mph mixed with speeds in the 60 mph range. This puts my range at about 120 miles before reserve needs to be turned on. Seems normal or too low? Other owners claim to get 80+ on a regular basis ? Bike has about 1700 miles on it now. Bought it used w/ about 1150 miles on it. Air pressure set at high settings (I weigh about 210 lbs) and engine oil's been changed (Yamalube 10w40) about 400 miles ago.
  2. Well I thought I'd update this thread and mention that it was the carb. I took it completely apart, soaked the carb body in Yamalube carb cleaner. Used a welding tip cleaner tool to carefully clean out the holes. Sprayed out all the holes w/ Gumout, and put it back together. All seems well...
  3. Thanks for that reply. I suppose I should check the plugs, even though the bike has 1,100 miles on it. Can't hurt anyways...
  4. Just bought this bike this week, '05 Virago XV250. Can't get it to idle well (really low & stalls-increasing the idle screw makes it worse?) or quit sputtering when giving it light throttle. I have to leave the choke on for it to idle well. Revs up fine when gunning the throttle off idle. Took apart & cleaned the carb w/ carb spray, but still does it? Has anyone messed w/ the pilot adjustment on the carb on their XV250? Or do you think I need to clean it again, any hints on where to concentrate my efforts? BTW, hi to everyone.
