  2. Hi Guys , have a problem with a 3cv clutch, poss needs bleeding so i am told by previous owner, symptoms are after engaging 1st gear the lever is right on the bar and the merest release and the bike is rolling..... changing up is ok, but changing down is clunky, have bled brake systems before wot a delight that is................. But have not come across a slave cylinder system, is it just the same as bleeding the brakes using the nipple on the slave as per the nipple on a brake caliper, hose and recepticle etc? & lots of patience !!! Many Thanks
  3. DOH!!! willtry that when i get home, am away in North Yorkshire in the Camper van, monkeys welders and all that.......... cheers Keith
  4. OK TRIED BOTH THE 'FINGER TWIRL AND THE DRILL CHUCK, CAN HEAR THE INNER WIRE TWIRLING IN THE CLOCK BUT NO MOVEMENT OF THE NEEDLE.................... BEGINS TO LOOK LIKE A CLOCK PROBLEM THEN, DOES THAT MEAN RENEWING THE ONE CLOCK OR THE WHOLE LOT, IE SPEEDO, TACHO, AND FUEL AS ONE UNIT??? NOT SURE ON THIS MODEL ...XJ600 1987..........IDEAS CHEERS KEITH
  5. THANKS GUYS, APPRECIATE YOUR WISDOM, WILL TRY THE FINGER METHOD TO ESTABLISH THE PROBLEM AND TAKE IT FROM THERE..................... CHEERS KEITH
  6. AFTER 5 MONTHS WORK THE XJ600 (1982) HAS JUST PASSED ITS MOT...HURRAH!!! HOWEVER THE SPEEDO HAS STOPPED WORKING, WE HAVE A NEW CABLE FITTED SO I GUESS ITS EITHER THE CLOCK ITSELF OR THE RACE IT SCREWS INTO ON THE FRONT WHEEL?? ANYWAY I CAN TEST EITHER TO FIND OUT WOT THE PROBLEM IS.....?? I DID READ SOMEWHERE ABOUT ATTATCHING A DRILL TO THE BOTTOM AND SPINNING IT TO SEE IF THE CLOCK IS WORKING, THIS SOUND OK TO YOU GUYS OR WHAT? CHEERS KEITH
  7. Hi Guys, just about finished the re wire of this 1986 xj600, my question concerns the little bulb within the headlamp and its relationship to the R/H light switch and which has three positions in the UK Off....PO...On. At the moment when i move the switch to PO the small bulb within the headlamp comes on, when i push the switch to 'ON' the main bulb lights up and the small bulb stays on is this ok? The black wire which leads to the bulb holder had come adrift so i have re soldered it back to its position...... bit mystified at the mo!! Cheers
  8. Hi all, spent the weekend trying to sort out the rust in the xj600 fuel tank, and the chosen product seems to have worked really well. I looked on the net at quite a few products and settled on an American 3 stage application called POR and followed the instructions to the letter being as i am a duffer first time round at most things...!!! And Lo, although fiddly and time consuming, (no shortcuts) it seems to have taken really well, so I am well pleased, all the inside as far as i can see, seems to be coated in a new grey finish and looks well smart.... The instructions which came with it were excellent, clear and concise, and everything worked fine, (IT DOES EXACTKLY AS IT SAYS ON THE TIN') as long as the human factor doesnt get clever!!! Cheers
  9. Thanks guys, been away for 3 days having a break, but will now return to the fray armed with your advice!! Cheers
  10. Hi Guys, newbie here, joined yesteday...am havving fun remodelling a 1986 XJ600, bought off fleabay a couple of months back, and am now on with the wiring having bought a spare loom!! Have to confess this IS NOT my area of expertise, however i have persevered over the last ten days, and now have indicators which some times work and then not, (engine not running as yet), fuse is fine, all bulbs ok, and the black box clicks away when they work. I noticed yesterday they worked when i pulled the clutch lever!! Suspect now the switch area needs looking at, any advice?
