  2. Ok, imagine the scene, at the security office of a delivery I make a couple of times a week. Meet a new security guard. Make pleasantries, usual tripe about your day, boss is a w'nker etc. Then he comes out with the "Got all your PPE", Nope, need a hat says I. at the same time as the hat, he hands me some safety glasses. Don't need them, can't wear em because of my glasses and you don't have the overglasses ones. I know because as said I have been delivering there for months a couple of times a week. He comes out with, "Its health and safety you have to wear safety glasses". No says I, "i can't wear those because I will have to remove my PRESCRIPTION glasses". His reply.. " Nope, you cant come past here without safety glasses on", "Fine I will go then ", says I. "You can't you need to wear the glasses past this point and the exit is the other side of the site", was his reply. My possibly heated reply of "Go on then genius your move!", was not in retrospect all that wise but it did get him to call the higher ups to complain about me, in the process getting himself called a tit and told to allow me in as I was wearing glasses and that will suffice for external deliveries, going inside the plant would be different. I am still laughing about it.

  3. This will make you lot laugh, picked up my bike earlier from Yamaha from its first 600 mile service. So, I set off on my way to realise they've messed about with my clutch, ( I know they've got to tighten it up but if felt horrible!!). Once I got home I had a look at the invoice, they've charged nearly £15 in SUNDRIES, and £5 for 'environmental disposal' - being in the motor trade I know that 'sundries' is not £15 !! Nor getting rid of the old filter and oil is a fiver worth! Never going back, servicing it myself from now on... Rip off!

  4. Hi all yam fans I have just finished a full restoration on my 79 dt175mx .all was well until the first test ride .when you pull away the clutch seems to judder and also it will rattle when the clutch is released and in idle. As soon as you pull the clutch in the noise goes away. I did notice on the engine rebuid that there is play in the main rivets going throught the clutch basket only when you twist it side to side.there was no ridges or grooves in the slots in the basket either. Any dt fans come across this one

  5. The plain plates in the DT clutch have cutaways to reduce clutch noise , the cutaways have to be evenly spaced around the clutch basket . Mitaka do a clutch overhaul kit which replaces the rivets with bolts and a new damper . Hope that helps .

  7. You learn fast when it costs money , and none of those work experience lads down at the dealers will care about your bike the way you do . "Sundries" , Pffft! , must've bought fags and a sandwich while working on your bike , or is that when they leave your bike out in the rain , and then the SunDries it off again ??

  8. So the first stage of converting to CDI is done! SUCCESS! :woop: Bike started first kick, I checked the spark before I kicked it over and it barely requires any effort to kick! revs out well! wont know until I ride it if its helped the top end at all (8500-9000) rpm. I cant believe I had some plastic 6 terminal conncetors and crimp on spades in my utilux kit that actually were the same as the OEM yamaha ones. I just had to change the pin layout on the stator plate to match my pre CDI wiring loom, very simple took about 10 minutes. its a 4 wire CDI box red/white - cdi input from stator black/red - ignition kill orange - trigger to coil black - earth to chassis stator is a pulserless CDI stator - I just matched the colours up! yellow - ac lighting red white - CDI coil output green/red - nighttime charging green - daytime charging blue - neutral light Once I convert to 12v I'll be throwing an electronic tach on and EGT/CHT probes. Just waiting on the 12v regulator and flasher units, then have to go globe shopping then It'll be ready to test. The biggest downside of this CDI stator plate is that its not adjustable, it doesnt have slotted holes, I might have to pay a machinist to slot them for me so I can adjust the ignition timing! its set at 2mm I think or slightly less, very retarded for my setup. Once I do boost ports through the piston I might even be able to advance it up to 3mm without increasing crown temps too far.
