I have a '96 XV535 that is a project bike. It hasn't been tagged in 4 years and has been sitting outside for maybe 2 years. Overall it's not in bad shape, hardly any rust on the outside and the paint and chrome should polish up fine. The prior owner said the bike would start but not stay running, and a mechanic told him it was the fuel pump. The top tank is a bit rusted, so I figure before I do anything, I'd pull both the upper and lower tanks and the carbs and clean everything out. I'm going to replace all the fuel lines as well. When I got the lower tank out (not an easy task) and dumped out the gas, sure enough it was filled with rust. My question is this- does …

Hello people I'm new to this and wont bore you with lengthy intros or crap. I've just picked up a 2001 125 Dragstar. High milage, 35000, and one exhaust cover missing, apart from that it 'seems' fine, no odd noises from anywhere, paint is ok, all chrome is quite good too. My problem is that I am having some real difficulty changing gears. Even after being allowed to warm up after starting, with the clutch pulled in and changing in to first it lurches forward, in the past it has died at this point. Gear changing was difficult going from 1st to 2nd and nuetral was almost impossible. Even now, after having the clutch stripped, cleaned and put back, clutch lever and cable rep…

hi chaps, does anyone know what other petrol cap will fit the 1992 xv535 virago? over the winter i've been changing the colour from blue to maroon its turned out quite well, the petrol cap was starting to flake so i sent it to a mate of mine to be plated,i posted it first class last thursday, and its gone missing in the post. so it looks as if i will have to buy one from somewhere if it doesn't turn up. had a look on ebay but nothing for a xv 535, will the cap off the bigger or smaller virago fit? it may give me a better chance of finding one. cheers.

hi all need some help and i have tried the search but couldnt get a good result. and looking through google just got me confused. anyway my exhaust keeps spitting out flames or "afterfire" i think the technical term is. iv got a free flow air filter (just search butterfly valve) and an aftermarket exhaust, the plug is reading rich ??? , the timing is spot on (did it yesterday) and every time i let go of the throttle BANG! no matter what rev range it is. i cant make the mixture any leaner as its a keihen (or keihin?, kiehen?) carb and cant adjust it without getting new needles and jets (which i dont really want to do) iv tried re-setting the mixture screw…

Hello Yamaha loving people out here. Let me introduce myself first : I'm Dutch living in Friesland (up North), named Erik. English isn't my native language, so please accept my excuses upfront for any mishaps in that department. I ride a KTM SMT 990 myself and my best bud's Yamaha XVS 650 ('99-er)has broken down. He has been quoted some 1500-2000 euro's ( most of it labourhour-rate I reckon) by his dealer after hearing the following diagnosis : "The bearing of the 5th gear is worn, and the clutch plate/plates are on the brink of failure". Now I wasn't there with him at the time, but given the bikes present resale value and his financial situation he didn't l…

Hi there, As my Speedometer has a non working bulb, and because it's scratched to hell I have decided to repalce the Speedometer on my Virago XV125. As getting an official speedo is either too expensive, or like gold dust, I'm looking at a 'universal' speedometer. Basicall wondering if a speedo like the below will connect to the existing speedo cable etc? Speedometer 1 or: Speedometer 2 If so that would be cool, and save me some cash! Saving cash is good, just cost me £150 to get my other bike through it's MOT!!

Hi folks, this is my first post (apologies I'm already asking for help). I have a 125 Dragstar that I'm trying to get running again for a friend. He has the usual carb joint perishing issues which i've bodged briefly while he saves up the cash to get a replacement, but I've run in to a little issue when putting the tank back on (yep - should've paid more attention to the fuel hoses when I disconnected them ). I have 3 hoses coming off the fuel tap - the one that lets fuel out in prime and then one that comes off what i assume to be the vacuum for the main supply to the fuel pump, however, there is a T piece in the short length of hose from this. I can only find 2 ho…

Hi guys, just wondering if any of you have had similar experiences trying to make a genuine warranty claim with Yamaha? I have a XVS 1300A with just over 7000 miles on the clock. Lately it has started making a horrendous squeaking noise when you pull the throttle back which quietens off when you ease off the throttle. I was due a 6000 mile service anyway so asked the dealer to try and rectify the problem. They admitted there was a strange noise and when they tightened up the belt and it was 'WET' then the noise would disappear. He spoke to Yamaha Warranty who explained to him that because there was no mechanical issue then I can't claim. My dealer told me the problem was …

Hello all! Hope you are all well and had a great Xmas and New Years!! Just wanted to start a thread about an exhaust mod that I have heard about for the XVS 125. Apparently if you drill 3-8 holes through the black part of the end cans, it creates a louder/deeper sound? Has anyone tried this or have any experience on this area? I found a good picture of a virago 650 that had this mod done to it, but can't seem to find any instructions, pictures or diagrams on how to do it to the xvs125. Is it possible/worth it? If so, how many holes should I drill? How big should they be and how deep should they go? Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time t…

Hi guys, Hope you are all well and looking forward to Xmas!! My name's Nicky and this is my very first post I've recently purchased a 2005 Yamaha XVS Dragstar. LOVE IT Only slight problem is with the gears. I have no problems switching when on the move, however, when at standstill, I'm having a little problem shifting her from 1 into neutral. I'm probably just not used to it but if I tap the gears gently, they won't move, and if I tap them slightly harder, it ups to 2. Now after about 4-5 attempts, the gears won't go up from 1 at all. I have to drive her for a bit (whereby changing gears is fine) and then come to a stop. Again I will get a few a…

Hi guys after long time... Was sometime away dealing with the bike, been understanding it more..plus I found a local store that sell genuine Japanese parts..at least they know the bike...errr yes they know the bike but for the gaskets I was given XV250 gaskets which I strongly think wouldnt fit.. Has someone got any experience on gasket replacing? XV250 thing wouldnt fit at all right? Same store gave me steering head bearings but the lower one's hole was smaller than the vertical rod of the steering head so had to put the old one once again which seems to cause issues..must remove them once again and take the lower older one to store to get a matching one.. …

This morning i got to work and noticed my heat shield on the down pipe chrome heat shield was missing off my 125 xvs dragstar, as you look at the exhaust its the one that come from the back piston and is the highest of the two exhausts. I am unsure where it came off, i was just wondering if anyone knows where i can getthe chrome heat shield from, its just the bit to cover the down pipe, any help is appreciated
