I'm refurbishing a former farm bike, which has lost its signals (and a few other parts). I cannot find a clear photo or illustration of what the turn signal lights (front'n'rear) look like, and how they are mounted. Any photos would be appreciated, either posted, or emailed. I bought some aftermarket lights from a dealer, but they turned out to be for an XT. Thanks awfully. Rest of bike is complete, and I can help others with info / input on things like suspension/brakes/speedometer, as I've all these apart, and replaced much of the innerds.

Hi All, I have in my possession a 1978 XS400E, that I inherited from my Dad. He originally bought it to help out a friend, but then stopped riding it after a few years. It then began its 26 year stint in a barn out in the country, where it has acquired lots of mud dauber nests and their deceased inhabitants, as well as lots of spiders that must not have been able to find their way out of certain nooks and crannies. Ever since I discovered it in the barn about 25 years ago, I've wanted to fix up this bike, and now, that time has come. My plan is to completely dismantle the bike, down to everything, and then clean/repair/replace/etc and then put it all back …

Hi all, New member here. My interest in Yamaha lies mostly in their classic motorcycles, so I felt it appropriate to introduce myself here, as ownder of a an RD400F and RZ350 and an '86 FJ1200. I've been a licenced rider since 1979, have personally experiencing roadracing at the club level, both here in the US and the UK. I've attended several World Champianship races, here and the UK. And I've been to the Isle Of Man TT, twice. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all/some, and raise my glass to meeting new friends! Cheers! I just bought another bike for $100! 81 Honda CM400C with 10,000 miles. The bike was parked in a garage for 10 years. I gave the carbs a cleaning, and the bike just started right up! I used my Yamaha gas tank to start it. The Honda's gas tank is full of rust inside. I was quoted $100 to clean and coat it at a local shop. Does this price sound right? Can I do it myself? Thanks

I have a 1.85 wide front wheel on my xs400. I know every manufacturer has different ACTUAL sizes of tires. The tire on the front wheel is 3.00/19. I think a 90/90 19 would be perfect. Would a 100/90 19 fit on my 1.85 wheel? It seems I have more tires to choose from with the 100, but only a few at 90/90. Also, would a wider front tire handle better or worse? I have found a 90/90 19 Bridgestone spitfire for front and a 130/90 16 for the back. Also, should I fit the same model of tire on the front and back? Would it ride and handle any differently with different tread designs? Thanks

Yet another posting on my newly aquired 1983 xs400! I was riding the other day when I noticed that my front brake felt a bit "squishy". I also noticed that there was maybe a little bit of moisture around the brake near the front tire. I just checked the brake fluid and it's basically empty. I'm off to go but some more, but it seems I might have a leak. Is this common? What should I do?

Okay, first of all... when I let the bike sit for a bit (ie- from when I get to work in the morning, until I go to leave for lunch), the right cylinder will load up and misfire for a bit until I get it cleared it out. usually I rev it a few times, let it idle while I put on my helmet, and it's okay after that. Well, while diagnosing this issue, I had my hand in front of the exhaust opening. It was then that I noticed that the right cylinder has a much more forceful exhaust "pop" than the left side. Even at idle, with both hands over the exhaust, it's quite noticible. What would cause something like this? I think I might be looking at two different things... one, the fl…

On my XS400K, I've been noticing a rear groan that occurs any time there's travel in the suspension. (This bike has the monoshock rear end). I took the seat and tank off, and traced it down to the coil spring and surrounds the shock. The body of the shock does have a plastic cover over it, that I'm guessing is supposed to prevent the spring from rubbing on the shock body. If I press on the top of the spring, the noise goes away, but I can still feel the vibration through my hand. Anyone have any tricks on how to get this to stop?

Ok so I'm fairly new to motorcycling, and I just bought an '83 XS 400 and found a version of the service manual. I'm wondering though, there are several different versions of the XS 400 listed in the manual: XS 400D XS 400E XS 400-2E XS 400F/2F XS 400G/SG,H So I have a few questions, the first being what is the difference between the types? And second, how do I know which type mine is (it didn't come with an owners manual)? Thanks people!

Hi! I've bought a xs400 12E - 1982, a couple of months ago. This is actualy my first bike, so I haven't much experience with motorbikes. (Although I've been driving a few other bikes to get my drivers lisence. ) I like the bike, but I'm not very satisfied with the front brakes. That said, I'm not sure what to expect either. The only comperison I can make, is to 2005 model touring bikes. Perhaps its not a fair comparison?? Any thoughts?? Well... The breaks is not my real problem... I've got some oil leakage in the front fork. And it is relatiely easy to "bottom out" the front fork. When I break hard or hit bumps in the road, it seams like the fro…

Hi everyone. I have just bought a XJ900 in good faith, but have discovered that the frame has rusted through near the right hand engine mount. Has anybody else ever come across this and is there an easy solution?
